Hi, I'm after a bit of advice from anyone that has fitted a rack and top case please.
I really like the Yamaha setup that clamps to the rear grab handles but when I saw it in the flesh at the dealers I was concerned how much flex there was. If you grabbed hold of the case when locked onto the rack there was lots of front to rear tilt that appeared to be in the base or its clamp to the grab handles. Is this correct?
The Givi setup looks to me to be stronger as its bolted to the sub frame, is there any tilt /wobble in this? and would this interfere with a possible later exhaust upgrade?
Appreciate some advice please.

I have one and I've loaded it up with at least 20kg of crap and then gone at least 90mph for long stretches and not had any trouble. It's solid as a rock.

My guess after seeing a couple of setups for the FZ (I have shad rack and givi case personally) and also for other bikes that any case wobble you would get would be play between of the case locking mechanism and the mounting feature on the plate as opposed to any issue with the rack itself.

The man to ask on this would be Wolfman,he has one and loves it and carry's a lot of gear with no probs

I have the GIVI V46 tail case and it is as solid as a rock. No movement at all at any spead or load. Excellent item to have and has lots of room.

Yep, i have this set up, load it to the gills regularly...no wobble!

Dont hesitate get the Yamaha set up, looks better IMHO, is a solid as a rock, and is easy to remove, including the rack itself for Sport Riding. Top quality kit.

Foofazer,

I have the Givi Rack, and having fitted it I wished I had bought the Yamaha one, The Givi is a real PITA to fit, but once fitted seems very strong. The one advantage I guess is that you can get bars to fit side cased as well, if thats your thing!

If you are thiking of or already have an after market exhaust then the Yamaha one is, I believe, your only option as the Givi one has brackets specifically designed for OEM exhausts.

Thanks swerve9031, there looked to be a bracket going under the exhausts on the givi and this was my concern. it does look very sturdy though. I think the Yamaha rack fitted to the bike in the showroom might not have been fully tightened.
Thank you everyone for your help. Luv this site.

Actually there is the Shad topmaster rack that also works with aftermarket exhaust and no modification. The yamaha rack would be much easier to install than the shad which is probably closer to a givi install.

I have seen the Shad Rack on this forum and I like the look of it, Unfortunately its not easily available in the UK as far as I can see.

What rack setup did you buy in the end then? I'm thinking about buying the Yamahe setup from my dealer.

I'd be interested if anyone found the shad one in the UK? I need one that will work with my Scorpions.

I forget who (and I had to clean out my PMs) but I had traded some PMs with another member who bought one in the UK. In any event, try google and "Shad luggage UK" - it turns up a few sites that carry their line. Here's one of the first ones for example:
