I have to type something. . . .

No load it takes little airflow to sustain RPM. Under load, a different story. Why its abruptly 8K, well I don't know. . . But I doubt its bad fuel and I doubt the coil packs or plugs are at fault. Both of these would show up earlier. Well unless it has diesel in the fuel? 4 stroke gas engines hate that but it'd show up sooner to as won't idle below 2k.

If nothing is here - I'd be pulling connectors apart and looking as suggested earlier.
 
I was beginning to be afraid of Master Shake getting upset. He loves that Samurai sword...

At least you eliminated the TPS itself but there's also connectors and wires that can go bad as mentioned earlier.

I'm not a mechanic and haven't even stayed at a Holiday Inn Express so know I don't have anything else to say.

There's been a few things repeated here and you finally addressed them. If you need I have We/Th/Fr off so can stop by your place to help you diagnose the problems. I have a hammer that's worked well on Chevy's before (i.e. Chevy Hammer). I can also supervise and suggest things you need to do then take a lunch break. I'm very helpful at times.

Holy SH!t were related and I didn't even know it!!!! Well at least you MUST be related to my uncle....well if you would have said "I can be very helpful after a case of beer" he's the guy in the shop who says hey why dont you try pluging that back in, while one plug is in one hand and one in the other and they just happen to be moving closer to each other....
 
i have pulled the airbox apart and it looks good in there, nothing like your pic:eek:

i can start pulling connectors apart but with my limited knowledge of this (or any) bike all i will be able to do is look at it. if this was a car i could tell you what everything is, but things are hidden so i'm at a loss, unfortunately, I'm not off wed/thu/or fri and have no clue what time ill be home as it always changes.

I'm beginning to think its an ecu problem

someone needs to develop a fz6 hammer...
 
This probably isn't your problem but seeing that er-1 code reminded me of my dads bike. He has a dl650 and started having some of the same issues but his main problem was the bike just dying for no reason, randomly. Well after months of going through every little thing on the bike he finally admitted defeat and took it to the dealer. The dealer was even stumped until a mechanic had the bright idea to take a can of air duster up side down and start spraying sensors since it happend worse in the cold. Turns out it was the tps, for some reason when the temps were around freezing it would start acting up, but it wasn't as consisting as your problem is.
 
My 04 FJR had a similar problem, not nearly as bad as yours. It turned out to be corrosion (not alot either) in a main harness under the fuel tank. Apparently that connector was known to collect water and corrode over time. A good cleaning and dilectric grease fixed it permanently. No diagnostic codes appeared... The TPS was replaced under a re-call at the time as well.

I would be looking at the main connetor to the ECU.

Unplug it gently and check the connectors for any green/corrosion, etc. Clean and re-assemble with di-lectric grease. I would also follow the connector from the TPS and check the connector to the main harness as well.

Its definitily not a retrictor plate....

I don't believe its been mentioned, how old is the fuel in the tank? Was it treated with a stabilizer?. If its more than a month old not treated, no matter what, I'd be dumping that and start fresh with a good dose of Seafoam(as mentioned earlier-its a good cleaner/stabilizer).

If your comfy working on cars, finding the connectors is the same, just on a much smaller scale.

Well ad this to my list of things that I over thought, a long list anyways.

When I got home from work I looked at all the connections under the tank and they all looked like brand new, so I was stumped, so I started it and played with it and jus sat there and thought about it. I came to the conclusion that it acted as tho it wasn't getting the fuel to mix with the air when the butterflys were all the way open, clogged injectors I thought.

so I rode to the gas station because I had one bar left. I filled up with premium and half a can of seafom, and left, I went about half a mile down the road and turn on to a road that is smooth and most of the time empty, so I stopped, made sure the road was empty, and started off, gave it full throttle and all was good, a little more peppy but not that much different. Then at about 8K O M G! I didn't have time to look at the tach, but I assume I shifted to second gear around 12K and brought the front wheel about 6 inches off the ground :eek:


It scared me, needless to say, I respect that bike alot now.

Bad gas didn't cause your TPS to trigger an error code in the ecu...

Although I am happy your bike is working, the situation above is probably coincidence - your injectors would have to be majorly clogged to cause the problem you were having. Also, a severely clogged set of injectors would cause the bike to idle like crap.

Check the wiring to the TPS - wiggle the plug, check to make sure the wires haven't backed out of the plug, check to make sure the plug isn;t full of water.

Then, check the TPS with a multimeter to verify its operation.

very, the whole rpm range is smoother now, i just thought it was smooth before, sounds like a sewing machine now at idle:thumbup:

Great news! After you've run a few tanks through the bike. Disconnect the negative lead on the battery for a few minutes. Then hook it up again. That should clear your volatile ECU memory and possible left over error codes. :D

One of these days we'll have to get together for a ride. I've been around Canyon Lake a couple of times (have a buddy that lives there, he has a Harley). There's a lot of good roads west of IH-35.

Hopefully that's all the problem was. Keep in mind there may be other issues so be listen to your bike, it'll speak to you.

Maybe there was a loose connection and while you were playing with it you fixed it not even realizing it, or the gas. But awesome!!! Glad its working right, and for now don't worry about digging into It further, if it ain't broke don't fix it, although if it starts happening again start where you left off, but yes do undo the neg on the battery to clear off any previous codes like moto said

Agreed about something else other than fuel quality to blame. Off hand my next shot was fuel delivery as in the Fuel Pump was not getting the current it needed to keep up with the demand. I'd be looking for burned or discolored connectors . . . :eek:

From your video and it backfiring through the intake track says it has spark and it went lean making the intake track popping sound. Simply moving the tank around could have established a better connection if it were compromised at the fuel pump.

In a nutshell - a slow roll of throttle requires way less fuel demand than a quick snap. 8K requires a whole lot more than idle to 6k. IMO the injectors were likely not at fault or plugged as they do not all clean out at once and become perfect in seconds. Besides, that would have compromised the idle and it didn't. Again IMO there are two components: pressure and volume. With adequate pressure it will atomize the fuel via the injector and start and idle well as yours did. But if it lacks volume either from being plugged or lack of current to the pump, it will do as it did and stumble, pop, fall on its face if the need exceeds the demand.

Glad all is well and yes, the error code is a none issue. It's only saying one day it had an issue but is not actively reporting an issue. Clear it as suggested.

well i think i may have found part if not all of the problem, there is a hard plastic line coming from the bottem of the tank going to what feels like the fuel rail, it is wrapped in a rubber thin hose that is marked "DO NOT KINK DO NOT KINK DO NOT KINK" all the way down it, and wouldnt you know, its kinked right at the bottem of the tank. i couldnt see it before because the ose on the outside, i just happened to feel it:(

so i guess its of to the yami dealer to get a new one tuesday

Same result as kinked line I guess. ". . . the need exceeds the demand.

The point being under no load air and fuel demands are low. Good call to replace that line. Its not something you want to have rupture one day. :thumbup:

Just looked at my 07, you can see the line thru the right side of the frame.

Same thing, "do not kink", it is around the main fuel line. I never noticed the writing before and have had the tank off more times than I care to count.

Great find!

BTW, being the previous owner was a newbie-female, I would have to think a "PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC" at whatever last dealership she had at, screwed it up...
