Hi,
am planning to buy a FZ6N with about 20,000km, how long do these bikes last?
Is it recommended to buy one with that many kms?

cheers, -j

Over here in the Netherlands we have FZ6's with over 100000 km. They are known and respected for there reliability. I myself am heading for over 25000 km in one year. Just past half year and already the 16000 mark is in view. So that should not be the problem.

An FZ6 with only 20000 km is just starting....Enjoy......

I just bought a 2004 model with 20,000km on it from Action Motorcycles in Sydney, and I'm really happy. It rides like new.

I got them to put on some new tyres and give it a service as a condition of buying it. When I got it home I noticed they hadn't even changed the oil so I made them take it back and do a proper job - new oil + filter, new sparks, new air filter, etc. The workshop hadn't been told it was a freebie service so they tried to charge me $500. I told them to stick it, and we're all happy.

How much are they asking for yours? I don't want to tell you how much I paid in case I got ripped off :)

Yamaha has a very reliable engine and i have heard of yamaha's going for over 100,000 miles, not the FZ6, but it is all in how the engine is taken care of.

Agreed, I've never had a problem with a Yamaha engine, ever, 2-stroke, 4-stroke, big, small, Yamaha just does it right. All were bought new though so I know they've been taken care of properly. That's my biggest concern with buying something used, you just don't know what the previous guy did unless he's got records.

One guy on the FZ sportsbike.net has just psssed 50,000 miles with no major issues whasoever. Oil, tires and chains, that's it. Actually he may be here as well... I think his name is Gossling (avatar name)...

where abouts did you buy the bike in sydney? am living in brisbane it's quite difficult to find a used FZ6 for a good price. the bike i mentioned above is a 2005 from a dealer, they are asking about $7,500, but am not happy with the price, but the bike is black which is harder to get. in generall it seems that sellers are charging more for used bikes in QLD (more than in other states especially NSW, VIC), --why is that?
How much did you pay for your 2004 model with 20,000kms?
cheers

Yup, dats me. Just hit 51,100 on my way home tonight........:Sport:

Not bad, good effort there. If the Missus goes into work as opposed to working from home next week, she'll see hers roll over 56,000 miles. Mind you, that's been done over three years from new, her commute's nothing like it used to be. Her first Fazer (also her first bike) had 36,000 on it when she crashed it, that was done over one year and one week, also from new.

After massive commutes, European tours, weekend rideouts, track days and a bit of drag racing neither bike has ever shown any sign of engine problems other than the TPS failure (I think she's on her fourth one now), one cam chain changed as a precaution and a bit of corrosion on some of the casing. The oil gets changed when it's supposed to and it gets a long run at least twice a week, it's not had any special care and attention paid to it and rarely gets cleaned, so they do seem fairly indestuctable.
