what happened to oil change thread?

I recall there was a how to do an oil change tutorial thread, but I can't find it anymore. Search of oil change turned up nothing. Help?

sorry my question is not about what oil is 'best', it's about how to change your own oil. I distinctly recall there was a picture tutorial on this site (or am I wrong about this) even with picture of aluminum foils. But I can't find it anymore!!!!

As i have not looked for such before, i cant help you, as i dont recall seeing such a thing...

But it is pretty easy stuff...Put your bike up on it's centrestand, Get yourself an oil pan, put it directly under the sump plug, at the base of the crankcase, find the appropriate sized spanner, undo the sump bolt, and drain the oil. Whilst doing this, if you intend to change the oil filter, unscrew the oil filter, and replace with a new filter...simply by screwing the new one back one....a generic oil filter "wrench" will help with this...

When oil is completely drained, and Oil Filter is replaced, put the sump plug back on, preferably with a torque wrench, set to the correct torque setting, as per service manual instructions,...dont overtighten, and crack your crankcase! this spelLs DISASTER with a capitol D!

once everything is back in place, get a clean funnel, unscrew your oil filler cap and insert clean funnel into the oil filler cap, and pour 2.6 litres of your new oil into the motor....check level via dipstick, when done, replace oil filler cap...get riding!

Also in the picture, BD_43 has his on sidestand...which on is correct side or center stand?

Search tool is no good. It doesn't work for 3-letter words.

Btw wolf, maybe you would like to review the oil quantity for you bike model (y), at least for my 2008 the owner's manual states 2.5 litres without changing the filter and 2.8 litres when changing it.

In my personal case and for peace of mind I always change the filter.

Erci is right, the forum search doesn't recognize 3 letter words like oil or GPS. But if you look under the forum search box, there is a google search box. It says "search site/google" and works way better. My search string was "oil change pictorial" I think.

I have done about 20 oil changes on an FZ6...2.6 Litres with oil filter, 2.4 litres without changing oil filter...oil dipstick is always exactly on full everytime...i am OCD! I CHECK!

I've seen the oil level be off when going exactly to the factory spec. I think the factory gives you the amount based on a completely dry engine that never had oil. Bet you'll find Wolfman' specs. on the oil amount are accurate. :rockon:

Is that 2.6 liters figure based on the shorter (stock) or longer sized oil filter that many use?

I, too, find that filling to spec is a little off and can lead to slightly overfilled.
