What Classes Are Our Bikes

I know that there are a few CATEGORY/CLASSES that bikes bikes fall into. like: Harley Davids, street bike's, sport touring, crouch rockets etc. What class does the FZ6 fall into

+1, pretty sure it's sport touring which is why our insurance is so low compared to RR's.

I would classify it as a sport tourer but my Insurance still calls it a Super sport and Yamaha has them under the super sport section as well.

Geez, when I'm asked I just say "sportbike" I guess, though, it's more "sport touring" since the bars aren't clip-on, low profile. But, geesh, it's an prior year R6 engine bolted on to a light frame and the bike can lean pretty good. If you ask me, a bike that does 1/4 mile in under 12 secs is more "sport" than touring.

Tourer doesn`t mean slow... it means comfortable

The FZ6 is obviously a streetbike, and they call it a "roadster" in Europe. I`d call it a sport tourer as well.

one of the R6's still uses the same engine as well, as already said, sport touring is all the comfort of a tourer with all the performance of a sport bike.
I am greedy and want it all!

I dont own one yet but my insurence company is telling me super sport. I'd say sport touring. But the reality is it's a class all it's own.

I would say "sport bike" because of the reasons mentioned here. "Semi-faired sportbike" to be precise.

Just because it has a handlebar doesn't mean it's not a sportbike, dammit. It DOES, however, mean that can not be classified as a supersport or RR. I agree - gotta have the clipons and high rearsets for that.

The class of the bike depends on who you talk to. I could tell a preson who knows nothing about bikes that it is an R1 and will run 200mph and they would believe me. But since we all seem to know a little about bikes ill go with sport-tourer.:Sport:

Yamaha calls it super sport, that sucks. Insurance copmanies will use that as a basis for your rates.

A standard would be more like it. Not even close to sport touring for lack of factory: faring, bags, high output alternator and windshield. I have done back to back 700 mile plus days on my FJR but would not even want to try it on a FZ- not saying it couldn't be done though.

i consider it an 'all rounder' as its does most things well.

I've thought of it as a "traditional" or "standard" given its upright riding position. I've seen a few reviews of it that put it into that category. Those articles were lamenting how that segment of the motorcycles market is so miniscule in the US, with nearly all sales being cruisers or sport bikes, even though standard styles are really all-round better machines for what most people actually use them for. Thus, there are hardly any choices in that segment in the US, whereas there are many options in Europe.

When I first started looking at the FZ6 I thought it was termed a "Standard". I still think that the ones that dont have the fairings or are naked may be standards. I still refer to it as a Sprt Touring bike though. Here is the definition...........................................................
