warning for anyone with t-rexx sliders

Well as the title states i had a brand new pair of t-rexx :spank: sliders on my bike just for my trip to the dragons tail with my family.Well I put them to the test and at about 15 mph I had a topple over and the left side hit the ground and broke clean off. No slide just a clean break off. So to anyone considering on getting a pair of them, i would tell you no, but i leave your bike up to you.

It happens. No slider can protect you from all damage. It depends on how the bike hits and what it hits, and so many things.

I doubt yours totally failed you. The impact that broke your slider would most likely of broken your frame, rear set, shifter or brake lever, and severally damaged your bars and mirror.

I have had my sliders on the ground 4 times.
Drop. (my fault)
Crash. (my fault)
Drop. (my fault)
Backed over by truck. (his fault)

Each time I have had to replace the slider.
Each time they have absorbed damage in thier destruction that would of been inflicted on the bike.





I bet if you go and look at your bike with a carefull eye you will see what I am talking about.

Well, you didn't detail what damage you received other than the slider. Did the slider itself break or was it the bolt and slider? Your leaving a lot out.

I'm going to side with everyone else so far in that a slider is only going to work in a finite number of situations. You mar have just had the kind of fall that it wasn't meant to take.

Also curious because I have T-Rex on my FZ1 and will be installing them on her FZ6R this weekend.

Also curious... after it broke, what OTHER damage occured? What was the terrain that it broke on? Did it start to slide and catch something on the ground? Please give us the lay of the land and some details. Thanks!

After the slider broke my bike kept slidding for about five more feet and cracked the front fairing in several places, both inner and outer. the crank case was all scratched up. the black plastic under the seat on the left side is shatered. now i understand that the damage could have been worse had it not been there. but the point i am trying to make is that a slider is suppose to slide not break on first contact with asphalt. For all those who are wondering what broke it was just the sldider and not the bolt.

I went down a while back and the T-Rexx performed well...prevented some damage that would have been $$$. I think like others have said, it really depends on the nature of the impact.

have you emailed/called t-rex? i'd be curious to hear what they had to say about it. not having a lot of experience with sliders i would have to agree with you. i think of sliders sliding and not breaking. sorry to hear this.

my genuine yamaha sliders broke off after the bike highsided over a roundabout. it kept pretty much all the damage to parts that are easy to replace. except the tank cause the bars bent into it.

if they break then i still think they are doing their job.

You're being pre-critical (I think) because many sliders (not all) use the same "Delron" material. As others, I've had a slide with T-Rex sliders and the delron did wear down and saved me alot of damage. Is it possible you had a direct hit or something? Was it a initially a Fluke-kind of hit? Maybe I'm wrong through and another brand slider wouldn't crack up similarily...? At any rate, thanks for the post.

These are what mine did. It slid great untill the bike flipped on the bars.

I didnt flop it down though. I lowsided under power and pulling for every mm of ground clearance I could get. I went in on a bad line, way to early turn in, then ran out of lean angle to keep it in my lane on the exit. The centerstand, and footpeg/brakelever pushed the rear tire out of contact with the ground and away we went. The slider slid because it could slide. It bent the bolt and the deformation of the bolt seperated the edge of the frame on the engine mount horn.


They slide good when they can, when they cant they break. Thats just part of it.

My pants, jacket and boots all took damage as well, but I got up. I rode the bike home. Thats what sliders really do. They let you (usually anyway) ride the bike home.

Sure not knocking you man, just saying that Trex is a good company with a good rep that does a good job. It just cant do everything, it helps to reduce damage in most cases and thats really all that can be asked of them.

all that happened to me was a little scrap on my shin that i have no clue how it got there i was in full leather riding suit, and a fun ride on my back. oh yeah and my pride. but i finished about 6 runs on the dragon after that but i was shook up all day long.

i have thought about going naked before but i have a move in to arizona here in feb. so saving my money for that

I agree, they still reduced damage greatly.
if there was enough force to snap it clean off, thats force dissapated into the slider; not a part of the bike.

There have been enough crash tests with them to warrant them just as good quality (with the same amount of freak accidents) as the $80 ones.
