I had a nice little LED voltmeter, but after a crash that broke the cover off, rain eventually killed it. I just installed a new one:

The gauge cost $18 at autozone and comes with a little bulb for illumination. Pretty straightforward install, I just wired up a relay to the cigarette lighter, meter, and backlight so that they all come on with the ignition.

Those are some pretty slick setups, I think I might have to search some old threads for some more info, voltmeter + 12v outlet would be sweet. Any other useful gauges that ppl have added (besides that DGV)?

I wish some of those nice digital and LED voltmeters were cheaper. I have some issue with spending $50+ on something so simple. The $18 one I picked up is perfect for me, and it's analog and illuminated, which is classy. I would have liked to see it in a 1-1.5" package, though.

My other idea was to throw together a DIY battery gauge in an altoids tin:
DIY LED Battery Gauge. The LM3914 makes it almost too simple - it even includes internal resistance for the LEDs.
