Virago 750 or 535

This lead on from a previous thread where I needed other people to convince me I was right in preferring the virago for a chopper project! :spank: Luckily everyone else said what my heart did. But then I started to think about which virago. I've seen 750s and 535s that I like both of.

I like the 535 as I'm less likely to kill myself on it if I build a badly handling bike, it's lighter and you can see light in between the cylinders (which I love). Also, there seem to be more of them out there. The stock pipes are really nice looking too.


However, the obvious advantages of the 750 are the extra power, the fact that there is one nearish to me for sale now and that it doesn't have some stupid fake tank on top and the main fuel tank under the seat!!! They seem to be a bit more popular to build choppers out of too.


I can't see any other major differences between them. The pictures I posted above, don't do all that much justice to the 750 as the 535 is in better nick and has aftermarket pipes on it.

Again, opinions/advice would be gratefully received!

This is where the decision would be tough for me. I think this is what I would do.

You already have an FZ6 which is pretty fast and powerful for the street. So, what I would do is go with the smaller Virago because it would be lighter, more flickable, and you would more than likely save money because the parts would be cheaper for a smaller bike.

Although, having a real gas tank would probably be better and hold more fuel. And the bigger bike would be faster...

Then again, I would think of this bike as being a project bike and then a weekend bike, rather than your daily driver.

I still think you should go with the 535 IMO.

I'd say the 535. If it's just going to be used to cruise around with you don't need that much power. I still have my virago 250 and that's fine for the streets yet.

That is a really good point! :thumbup: Imagine them painted yellow and black. :rockon: Plus spoked wheels are a pain. I'm gonna go have a look at the 750 today I hope, assuming my rearsets have dried on the FZ6 anyway.
