Totally off-topic question for the Aussies

I am really curious....

Do you call the US and/or Europe, the land "Up Over"?

thanks. :Flash:

Nope, can't say I've ever called it that. Just because you lot are all upside down and your water goes down the drain the wrong way, ya still pretty normal :D

Where down-under comes from... Hmm, maybe Mr Google could answer that for us

The Yanks call Australia "down under" but in fact we are above and not below the US.

LOL :ban:

NO, we usually call them Europe and America.

I don't actually think we call Australia downunder any more - very 70s/80s. Now we call it Australia :Flash:

I call it (Sepo Land) the Northern Hemisphere.
Sepo? Ryming slang for septic tank = yank. (USA)
Still use down under as an expression 'down' here.

Interestingly, we often refer to things as from the 'Southern Hemisphere'. eg, my bathroom is the bloody biggest one in the Southern Hemisphere.

Also called the 'land of Oz' a bit as well.

A lot of this comes from the second world war, especially where I am originally from, Townsville , where the Yanks had a big influence during their time there in WW2 when the invasion was on (Japanese)

Horry:rockon:

Isn't there a song out there where there is a line, "I come from a land down under..."? That probably isn't where it came from...

Here ya go Ghost
