Time for some TLC?

Has anyone done a complete engine tear down, clean (replace if nec), timing chain check etc ? can you point me to a thread with pics? I'm at that 16000 mile mark and I think Betsy is starting to get a little saggy (fouling plugs, sluggish, knock). I want to get in there and do some general maintenance and I have the resources to do it myself, just wondering exactly what I would be getting myself into before I take the plunge.

Buying a hard cover Ganymede manual will only set you back 25$ I think it pays for itself if you do one job

I got a Haynes off fleabay for $5 shipped. Looks like it was brand new.

I have the Yamaha Extended service manual, but having done some smaller work I think it sometimes doesn't tell the whole truth. do you think those are better manuals?
