California is trying it again! If you look at this you'll know it won't just be California. Copy and paste and send these in unless of course you want them to take your cans and kill an already hurting economy. This is on a state and federal level so we really need all of your support on this.

It's this Fran Pavley lady at it again. Somebody in her neighborhood must have loud pipes. :Flip:

My addition to the boiler-plate text they provide for the letters:

"This is yet another case of an ill-conceived bill whose premise is likely fueled by a personal vendetta of Sen. Pavley against motorcyclists. If passed, the law would waste time of law enforcement officers who have more important situations to deal with. The logistics of even enforcing such a law are not feasible. Just want to preface my comment with this:
I have Scorpian's/PCIII on my 05 and love them. I have stock pipes on my 06 and think they are pretty ok. Sometimes even prefer the quiet ride. Once my stock bikes warms up, she runs nearly identically to my modded (lightly) bike. There is a bit of a hump in the power between 5000 and 6000 RPM's on the stock bike, the modded bike is smoother through the entire powerband. I am not an 'anti-loud pipe kind of guy. I would love to find a pipe that fell right in the middle of the Scorps and Stock volume level.

It seems the pricipal argument agianst this bill is the inability to find the sticker on many stock systems. This seems a bit silly to me. The real complaint on our side is that many of us enjoy the sound of aftermarket pipes or in some cases, prefer the looks of aftermarket pipes. The stated concern is that officers will be pulling bikes over willy nilly and checking for stickers, leading to stock systems getting ticketed. Not going to happen. Stock systems are clearly quieter than aftermarkt systems. By an order of 10x in my uncalabrated ears. People riding stock bikes will not get pulled over because there will be no real cause. It is / will be those that modify their bikes exhaust that will get tagged. I'm not in favor of the bill but I don't beleive that it will be an easy bill to argue against with a straight face.

What gets me is that there's no enforcement of noisy aftermarket exhausts on these souped-up "tuner" cars. Where's their EPA stickers? Why just pick on motorcycles?

I received this response today from the senator of my district:

Thank you for taking time to contact my office and share your thoughts on Senate Bill 435 (Pavley). I appreciate hearing from you on this issue.

SB 435 would commence January 1, 2012 and require the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) to include specified motorcycles in the biennial smog check program. This measure was approved by the Senate by a vote of 21-16, and will next be heard in the Assembly Committee on Transportation. I voted in opposition of this bill because motorcycles contribute less than 1.5 percent of all the mobile source emissions in the state despite representing about three percent of the total number of vehicles in California. Furthermore, I believe the efficacy of this bill is questionable due to its negligible impact on overall smog emissions.
