A member has replaced the thermostat WITHOUT removing any of the above items (I know the manual states to remove them).

Its tight but very do-able.

To answer your question, yes those lower 4 clamps need to be loosened.

Per the Yamaha manual, page 7-4, throttle cables, electrical connectors, fuel line, etc, need to be disconnected.

They'll (the TB's) will probably be sticky coming out. (just time/ heat, rubber sticking to aluminum). Some slight rocking should loosen them

^^ Agreed! I would get small and work around the TB's...

I replaced damaged TBs on guys bike not long after joining the forum (he bought a Craigslist special)....

- Biggest obstacle was a long reach 3 and 4 mm allen wrench.
- Coolant hoses too on the right side (drain coolant).

Note: bottom of TBs is 3mm. Air box is 4mm. The Ball Head Allan's work best so you don't have to get the angle perfect.
- Also, notice the boots have a nub to secure the clamps in ONE DIRECTION ONLY so don't try to rotate them for easy access as it can induce an air leak later.

There might be some useful info in here - take a peak if need be.
