I like it! Anyone else prefer the stock exhaust sound over a mildly louder to loud exhaust? I just want to get to work, not be heard going to work

I love the sound and look of my stock exhaust. Wouldn't change it for anything.

i decided that stock exhausts are the way to go for me after owning couple of aftermarket exhausted bikes....if you are going to race thats fine,,i love the sound but i really cant take it every time im on the road...
its like you love it in the first hour and start hating it after that..i dont make fun of people who has them ,,its just not for me anymore..

After owning some very loud cars, I'm all about lowering the sound level as much as possible. I like how quiet the exhaust is. I always wear earplugs to cut down the wind noise. What I need is a helmet that eliminates 20+ dB of wind noise so i can go without earplugs.
Well i have just bought a 2006 fz6n with a stock pipe, and i find it just a little bit too quiet. Not because i want my bike to sound "hairy chested", but because i think that people in cars are more aware of a bike if they can hear it! And we all know how many cagers dont even look for, or think about bike riders.
I must admit i sorta like the stealth nature of the stock pipe...less attention means less reason for Mr Plod to pull you over for a time wasting, and possibly expensive chat.
But my concern for being seen, and in this case heard on the road, i have decided that i want a little more noise, but not a bike that is going to wake the dead, or overly annoy the neighbours, i am going to get my stock exhaust "de-baffled".
Have booked my bike in with a reputable exhaust specialist, who is going to pull the pipe off the bike, take out the baffle, etc, and put it back together, as it looked prior to modification.....i do like the look of the stock pipes too.
CAT converter will be staying in place.
Am guessing it's going to sound a bit gruffer, but not crazy loud.
Is also a lot cheaper, and with the estimated $700 Australian i will save on buying aftermarket end cans, i can buy a Power Commander, and put the bike on a Dyno, and get better performance right accross the rev range, hopefully less snatchniess at throttle open, and a just enough aural attitude to give me a respectable presence on the road. All for the same price as a pair of Aftermarket cans alone.
And in the end, if i dont like what de-baffling does to my bike, in terms of sound, etc...well i suppose i will just have to go find a decent set of aftermarket cans, with Db killers and put it all down to experience!

love stock sound, Im not big on the theory that loud pipes save lives. I believe you're better off being totally aware of your surroundings. I doubt anyone is going to hear my exhaust over their stereo unless I have a harley...

That's nice....I thought I was on my own. Hate the sound of aftermarket exhaust systems. Love it as it is.
Plus, IMO every single aftermarket exhaust hangs out of the FZ's tail and I don't like the look of that. With the exeption of the Laser quads. Those are nice :rockon:

honestly, lately when i start up the bike w/o my ear plugs it doesn't sound so bad. maybe if i get a cat elim pipe, it would be better. I was dead set on a pair of 2Bros for a long time, but then I'm on the fence whether or not these would be too late for daily use. Some friends commented that my bike sounding like a sewing machine... I didn't mind. But there's no sense in drawing unwanted attention from LEO and pissing off my neighbors (i live in a townhouse complex and they're already annoyed that i smoke and sometimes my cig butts don't make it to the garbage).
If I don't do the 2Bros, I might try to get a set of Laser Quads. I dont want something really loud, I just want to change the tone.

Personally the lack of tone is the only thing I've been on the fence with. It's a motorcycle and it should sound like one, not a singer sewing machine....I'm sure the neighbors like the quieter sound.

Not sure why anyone would spend $500+ on an after market exhaust system just make your bike annoyingly louder? Hell, just give me a drill and I'll do it for free...:thumbup:... I know, I know that amazing 1 or 2 hp gain.....

In many cases I don't think the 2hp has anything to do with it. Rather, it's the actual tone they are looking for. Not all aftermarket pipes are annoyingly loud and it would clearly depend on the rider's control of the throttle before it does become annoying to some; where others wouldn't be annoyed at all. Personally, I would be much more annoyed by some kid running 1000 RMS watts to about 6 12" drivers in the low frequency mode shaking the ground around them for 50' at some signal light. Now that's annoying.

+1. The sound of starting my bike with my 2bros still gets me excited everytime. I get compliments on the look of the 2bros just about everywhere I go. Cant beat it. Plus I love the attention from the ladies when I give it some good deep & throaty revs in the parking lot on campus :thumbup:

Well....an exhaust that looks like a toaster oven and sounds like a sewing machine just doesn't cut it for me. To each there own that is what makes the world a happy place. :thumbup:
EDIT - I use my DB Killers in my Akrapovic and it is pretty much as quite as the stock exhaust, it just has a deeper sound and a bit more rumble to it. I also prefer the Ti cans to the plastic shroud. But that's just me. The stock exhaust is very well made.

I like your analogy, I like the stock exhaust. I like the fact that at low revs its there and at high revs the induction noise takes over. I would love a fancy after market exhaust but simply can't afford such purchase yet. I would also use dB killers.I like it! Loud exhausts are for offroad. Quiet exhausts are for onroad.

Didn't someone have a link to a statistical page about the whole "Loud pipes save lives" bunk? It stated that nearly 85% of all motorcycle accidents are frontal thus the bike crashed before the sound got there?
I don't want to be in hearing aids any sooner if I can help it. Stealth is great for me. Loud pipes are for the young'uns.
