Speedo question?

We all know the speedo's can be off by great deal but all the bikes I have dealt with have been to the generous side on the speedo reading. Today I passed one of the stationary radar stations and I happened to notice it read 44mph my speedo was only reading 40mph. Anyone else found they're speedo to be to the low side as well? Guess I need to break out the GPS to check it.

Yes, our bikes are 8 to 10% off in favor of the rider so it appears we are going faster than we really are. Your bike seems to be just the opposite? Curious! Please do let us know what the GPS records for you!

I just asked the mechanic to check out my speedo today because it seems a little off. He told me that it's normal for the FZ6's to be off as much as 8 to 10 percent. I don't think that this is right, but I guess that's just the way it's going to have to be.

That's not good. They are supposed to read a bit higher than the actual speed so you can't sue the manufacture when you get a fine. Never heard of one being lower, I bet the radar was wrong.

I know all the ones I've come across here in Australia including my own all read fast roughly 5% out, (I used a GPS to check) can't say I've heard of one reading slow. Funny thing is my FJR is just about spot on by the GPS like 1kph (.62mph) at 110kays (or 68mph) so I'm always watching my speed (well sometimes)

Well I carried the GPS with me today and I guess the Radar box was off. I am showing roughly 6% off. At indicated 50mph I am doing 47.2 and at 85mph I am doing 80.5. Had a 12 Satellite position fix on the GPS so it should be very accurate.

for my speedohealer I used their recommendations of 5.2% for stock gearing and 11.1% with the 15 tooth counter sprocket. I know it's not 100% accurate but id rather still be a little conservative.

I get a consistent 4mph difference between my indicated and speed and that radar speed. I just drive 5mph over the limit and every time I pass one of those radar stations it's almost dead on.
