Silverstar bulbs-great mod

Just wanted to comment on the installation of silverstar bulbs in place of stock. Thought the stock bulbs werent too bad, the silverstar bulbs simply kick their a$$. They really do brighten the road. BTW, who was the schmo that designed the bulb retainer clips that hold the bulbs in the fairing? That guy should be shot for overthinking the design. Are you kidding me, what a pain!!!

A lot of members have replaced their stock bulbs with the Silverstars and most noted that they didn't last very long.

I personally have installed the PIAA bulbs. Still going strong probably pushing close to 30k with these bulbs.

The silverstars only problem is they burn pretty hot to get that bright and don't like a lot of vibration.

Silverstar's are nice bulbs, but still can't compete with a set of slim HID replacement bulbs.
I put the HID's in everything I drive/ride. $80 bucks shipped, direct replacement, plug and play (just gotta mount the small boxes somewhere) and you wanna talk about LIGHT output.

HIDs are what I have planned as well...I put silverstars in the first week I had the bike; they lasted about 8 months before both bulbs blew. Granted, this was with the high beam on during daylight because I was too lazy to do the dual headlight mod. In the meantime I just have cheapies in there until it comes to HID time.

I think there's a difference between the Osram Silverstars you get in the UK, and the Sylvana Silverstars more common in the US. The Osrams are very bright and last quite well, but many people have reported the Sylvanas burning out very quickly.

You can also get the Osrams in the US, but they're not as common.

I too can attest to the bulbs burning out quickly. I used to run them in my cars. I dont any more because of the price. Though my bike is not a daily rider, so hopefully i can get a year out of them.

The Philips ones are awesome. The X-Treme power ones are really bright and last forever.
