short oil change....

long awful story short, there was NO air filter and it was neglected by somebody...so after gettin a new air filter and draining the blackness out of the oil pan we decided to go with a short oil change ~500miles or less on the castrol 4t 10w40 and new filter,
I was recommended an autolite oil filter, my boss said that if i hit any kind of higher rpms that the filter element will be sucked thru. Is that true? shouldnt the oil pressure be about the same as a car?

Good call on changing the oil after a short interval, keeping the oil clean is a good start. I have never heard of parts of the filter being suucked into the engine, but I'm just the small town chimney sweep. There is a lot of information on the oil thread site. For me I'm a Amsoil man. Anything designed for the motorcycle should be "okay". At least in the sense that nothing will get sucked into the engine. I've only heard of that happening on Harley's where the ingenious owner noticed that the much cheaper car oil filter would fit...

That being said, I use the K&N oil filters 'cause that's what my local Cycle Gear keeps in stock.

The oil is pushed through the filter not sucked through. Also our bikes and pretty much any engine has a pressure relief valve that will not allow the pressure to get to high. So I can't imagine any filter element being pushed out of a filter.

I wouldn't sweat the oil as much as the no airfilter... No airfilter makes me cringe... Not having an air filter can chew your engine to shreds in no time flat.... How long had it been without an air filter?

it was without the air box hooked up to the throttle bodies since i bought it about 500 miles ago....who knows before i got it.
the dumba#$ :spank: put a battery that was too thick and he unbolted the airbox and shoved it back to get the battey in, thus moving it off of the throttle bodies.
Im glad I decided to check that when I was doing my oil change. :thumbup:

Ouch! Granted that's not great and I would cringe, you getting it all back in order is way better than it was! That said its unlikely the FZ would ever suck a filter in. A dirty filter full of fine sediment would be the worst case. Keep it clean and it should be fine. Does it not have metal enforcement material in it?

As for the oil, it never hurts to replace it. I short cycled mine for winter storage. Amazing how dark it was in 1600 miles. . .
