Seat problems

Thanks for the info. Keep me posted! I just called my dealer and they said I could not get it for the 05, so I was disappointed.. the gunfighter is pricey, but if you could just let me know which you like best.. maybe I will hold off a while. :Sport::thumbup:

Ok...in the picture with 3 seats...it goes, Stock-left, Comfort Seat-middle, Corbin-right. The others are just comparison shots of each one against the other. Any other questions...feel free to ask!

It's unusual for someone to have all three of these lined up and you're likely the first. Thanks for the write up as well as the pics because this helps out a lot! I'm very curious to see what your comparision is. Are you going to make an identical run twice, once with each seat?

Next question: Do you have a buyer for the seat you do not want? If not, am I the first to ask? First refusal? ;) If you do have a buyer, what would you take for the stock seat? I'd like a shot at modding one but don't want to sacrifice my only one. :o

Thanks! Looking forward to the reporting!

Boo, you're dealer apparently doesn't have all the information. The Comfort Seat, though introduced with the '07, WILL fit the '04-'06. Guaranteed.

FZ6inNH, wow, I might be the first at something???

Seriously, though, I'm probably going to do something like this: if I can get a week where it doesn't rain for 4 days, I'm going to ride to work two days on the Comfort Seat, and two days on the Corbin. About 60 miles a day, round trip. I'd also like to take a longer run, over an hour, on both seats and this Saturday is looking pretty good for that.

The biggest problem I've had with the stock seat has been hot spots. It seems like after about 30 minutes I feel like I'm sitting on pins and needles. That's what I'm trying to find out about these two aftermarket seats...see which one is better at relieving that problem.

As far as the stock seat goes, I'm probably going to hang on to it for now. But, if I decide to get rid of it later, I'll keep you in mind FZ6inNH.

I don't have a buyer for whichever one I decide not to keep yet, so I'll keep everyone posted on that. No need to yell "dibs" yet...lol.

We are definitely curious about your findings as I've looked at both of these seats and wondered what might be the better choice, but I'd take either over the stock seat!

Now go ride! :D

CChouseKy I am glad I took your advice and bought the Yamaha Comfort Seat($245). Picked it up this morning and it mounted right on. I sat on it and it is very comfortable, and it is more narrow where my thighs meet the seat, so I am able to touch better. I haven't ridden on it yet, but tomorrow we will ride. We had to put together my husband's ZZR1200, we replaced the plugs with highperformance (for his jet kit) and a new K&N Air Filter. Not sure that we got what we paid for when we first upgraded his exhaust and installed his Factory jet kit. But what can ya do. Anyway I ordered some boots while I was at the dealer today, and will tell him to be sure if other's ask about the comfort seat for other model years, it goes right on like the stock seat.

Thanks again!

Corbin makes a great seat, even has a backrest for the passenger.

Don`t go for the Corbin seat.

I have read good points about them but far more bad points about them. The fact that they slope too much from back to front and are slippy seem to be the main problem. They are a great brand of seat for cruisers and other types of bike but they have just not got the FZ6 right yet.

Everyone says good things about the comfort seat and it looks good to.

I have the Yamaha lowered seat and we travel hours at a time 2 up with no discomfort.

Another tip for long haul rides is to wear padded cycling shorts under your leathers. It works a treat.

I got the comfort seat a few weeks ago and while I do find it somewhat more comfortable, I have found that it also tends to get screaming hot, especially on longer rides at highway speeds. I ride it to work almost every day except when it rains and the other day I had to go to a vendors office for the day and it sat out in the sun all day, normally its either in my garage at home or under covered parking at my office. It was almost unbearable once I got on the tollway and doing 70+. I thought at first, ok it sat out in the sun all day and the gel got heated up but after riding it should have cooled at least to my body temperature. Well the next few days I drove on the highway again, even at night without the bike having sat out in the sun all day and it was almost as warm. I dont get this on my normal commute in stop and go driving and I noticed that when I take the seat off the area under the seat just above the mufflers is almost hot enough to fry an egg. Its obviously transfering the heat from the exhaust to the rear sat then the front, but I never had that issue with my old seat.

I wonder if there is some heat reflective material that I can get from Home Depot etc. that will fit under the seat.
