Today I went out on telegraph canyon, just like every saturday morning. I rode with my boss who has a bmw k1200r. wicked bike btw.

I know the roads really well by now, and decided to kick it up a notch. I went through a 30 mph posted bunch of esses and on the last one before a stop sign, the turn felt like a dream. Then I hear a sccccrrraaaappppeeee. My left footpeg, the plastic protector on my boot, and my knee puck all hit the ground.

I made the bad decision of letting off of the gas, wich made the turn nasty. Could of easily high sided, or low sided. It was the first peg down and knee down ive gotten.

The rest of the ride i felt felt uncomfortable, so i was riding at about 75% just practicing throttle control, line and relaxing. When i came back through telegraph I was able to fly again.

All in all, I now know what to expect when this happens again. It just scared the poopie outa me.

Congratulations on riding over your limits on a public road, almost crashing and surviving to tell others about your experience. I hope this keeps someone else from doing the same thing without the happy(?) ending.

Today I received Palladino's video on low-speed handling of a motorcycle/police training, Number V; I'll be writing a full review of it in the next couple days.
I've only watched a few chapters, but the thing that struck me was, during the exercises on the video, they're scraping their footpegs on every turn during the practices, and they encourage it so you know where the bike's limits are, and don't panic during an emergency situation. Makes sense in retrospect, I guess.

how fast were you going? I know others have but, I never dragged a peg on my FZ6. where you hanging off the bike or riding it straight up.

P.S. thats why the "locals" call it telecrash cyn. glad you didn't go down ;)

I've scraped mine leaving my street making a 90 degree right turn onto the main drag at about 40.....it was fun lol. Course I say that cuz the bike didn't go down lol and glad your ok main

Go buy a harley, nobody is gonna ride perfectly safe everytime, even if they try, they will encounter "bumbs in the road" You learn from your mistakes good or bad. Im not trying to be the fastest guy out there, I just want to improve my abilities. You cant tell me you havent done something dumb.

I've got a good sized chunk rubbed off of my toe in the same spot. I finally starting standing on the balls of my feet in turns. :D

yup, I have the same story from this weekend...Went out with a race instructor and we were practicing cornering in the twisties. Didn't do my knee, but I scraped off my plastic toe thing...oh well, it was a rad ride! Hope to ride with you someday bro!

man you've got so much to learn. I really hope you don't take anyone out in the process.

Based on your reaction to touching down a peg plus the fact that your peg feelers are still on there and all the other posts of yours I've read, you're clearly a n00b when it comes to going fast on a motorcycle. Take it easy and in the meantime save your pennies for a track day.

I'm a new rider and scrape my pegs all the time, why is this something to attack Nick over? This is the first time he scraped and he's an unsafe moron all of a sudden? I'd say the fact that up until now he hasn't done it speaks pretty highly of him for not being an unsafe rider, that and that fact that he was wearing the right gear, on a road he's incredibly familiar with, didn't crash, knows what he did wrong, and learned something from the experience. Lighten up a bit. The first time I scraped was in MSF class and was encouraged by the coaches as normal and safe and something I needed to get comfortable with, he told me to do the exact same thing on the next lap. It's unnerving at first, so is emergency braking, but you don't need to be on a track to pratice and become proficient with either.

Is this all this was: scraping the footpeg? Well, you must've had a pretty good lean to do that. To be honest, I haven't yet scraped my footpeg. The FZ6 has pretty good clearance. I recently went to a police officers' motorcyle competition. Police scraped their Harleys are practically every turn. The BMW's didn't scrape. One officer dumped his Harley (but he quickly picked it back up).
