Quik vote machine polish rims?

So I got this question for the fourm I'm not sure whether to machine polish rims or not, currently I have headers getting ceramic coated and I'm getting a stainless steel fz6 grill. It would match, atleast I think it would, right now the rims are stock silver/grey.

I would say no not if the wheels are the only thing being polished there isn't enough shiney bits on our bikes for it to look right imo

I go for polished because they are silver now. I think black would look good too, though.

My wheels where silver /grey too so I painted the spokes black and polished the rims.

wolfmans rims are oober cool..but as your bike is already silver (in both metallic and flat) i think adding a third "silver" texture would spoil the continuity

But as is always said, only you know what you like/want

Polished rims look "squidly-ghetto" IMHO.... next you'll be wearing a t-shirt and flip flops....

Black, polished rims looks like too much hard work to keep clean to me, every water mark will show up every bit of road grime, but the experianced answer would come from wolf.

Ok well I think its going to keep it silver, there were some great points made about polishing the rims, So this is my verdict, headers are going to stay black, wheels will stay silver, For sure I wont make the wheels black,, too common. Im afraid it will mess up the scheme now, well anyway, the only thing on the bike with a stainless steel look to it will be the fz6 grill.

I personally like the look of having a polished lip. On the silver it won't stand out too much but adds just a little something, makes it shine. Old pic of mine:

Too much work.... the only way I'd consider polishing anything, was if it was immediately going to be clear coated afterwards. Trying to maintain a machine polish with elbow grease is a sure path to many hours of rubbing.
I don't have that sort of excess time in my life.

It took about 20 minutes to tape the rim and use the paint stripper. I never actually buffed it with anything, just a little mothers aluminum polish whenever the bike was washed. My bike was garaged and kept clean and it never got oxidized or looked dull.

Polish the whole thing...then i wont be the only one who is constantly polishing rims....it really is a big job, ongoing!

Think about that before you do it, before you commit yourself to such "pleasures"...

Wolfman, have you thought about clear coating your rims, so the shine stays? They look great..... but we both know the amount of time spent on maintaining that kind of thing.

How about S100 spray on cleaner.... I've seen that perform miracles on chrome. Sprtiz on, let it sit for 30 seconds, and hose it off. All the grunge goes with the water. I saw that done 25 years ago on a Pan head with triple chromed hubs, with rims that had lots of spokes...... you would have been cleaning for hours with a tooth brush. Spritz, spritz, 30 seconds, rinse off. You could see your reflection in the hub sharply defined.
