Quick question: which way does the rear brake pad go?

I was trying to clean and lubricate the rear brake caliper. There is a small metal section within the brake caliper. Here is a picture.

It popped out and I'm not sure which way it goes back in. Most notably there are two small tabs that poke outwards. In the above image they are both on the left side. I put it in just now in what feels like a natural fit, but I'd like to confirm with people here what direction it goes in and what it does, exactly.

It is listed as #8 I think or the is just called a support pad.

The way you have it in the photo looks correct. I don't think it will fit naturally if you turned it to any other position. Keep in mind when you re-assembly the caliper that the rear brake will feel different as in little grip, but should regain it's feel as the pads re-seat.
