In the basement there are 3 light switches in the off position. Each switch controls 1 of 3 light bulbs in the kitchen on the floor above. You may switch any one of the switches (one at a time only), but you may only go up stairs one time only. How can you determine which switch controls each light?

Turn any one switch to the “on” position for 5 minutes, then turn that switch “off”. Quickly turn any other switch to the “on” position and run up stairs.* Feel the two lights.* The hot one was the first you switched on, the lit bulb is the one you just switched on and the cold bulb is the one you haven’t turned on!
