As I am sitting here at home on day 2 of an 11 day break (achieved through taking only 3 days leave) I thought I'd ask, how many holidays in your country?

We have....

1 January New Year's Day
21 March Human Rights Day
Good Friday (Friday before Easter Sunday)
Family Day (Monday after Easter Sunday)
27 April Freedom Day
1 May Workers Day
2 May Public holiday
16 June Youth Day
9 August National Women's Day
24 September Heritage Day
16 December Day of Reconciliation
25 December Christmas Day
26 December Day of Goodwill

2 May is a holiday because if a holiday falls on a Sunday we get the Monday off. We also have an additional holiday on May 18 this year for elections.

I know for me, in the US, working at Cabela's, as well as many other people working retail style jobs, there is only a couple holidays that will get you time off.

July 4th Independence Day
Thanks Giving
Christmas

And getting those days off is still a 'blessing' for a lot of people, myself including.

Other holidays here that you may get off is:

New Years Day
Memorial Day
Easter
Labor Day (HA!)
Veteran's Day
Christmas Eve

Ouch, that's not too many. This is a crazy time because of the movement of Easter and the fixed holidays, most of the country is on holiday.

Oh... and your reason for editing, misspelling, is misspelled :spank:

It mostly varies by industry and company.

I get a day in Jan, Feb, May, July, September, two in November and one in December as company paid holidays. If one falls on a weekend I get either Friday or Monday in observance.

A couple do change depending on where in Australia you are, but in Brisvegas we get:

New Years Day Jan 1
Australia Day Jan 26
Good Friday
Easter Monday
Anzac Day April 25 (this year Easter & Anzac at the same time, 5 days off)
May Labour Day
Brisbane Show Day (Yep, we get a day off for the fair!)
Christmas Day
Boxing Day Dec 26

Have NFI why they don't make Melbourne Cup day a national public holiday. It may only be a horse race, but as they say 'Its the race that stops a nation', Australia literally stops dead.

New Year's Day 3 January
Good Friday 22 April
Easter Monday 25 April
Royal wedding - 29 April
Early May Bank Holiday 2 May
Spring Bank Holiday 30 May
Summer Bank Holiday 29 August
Christmas Day 25 December
Boxing Day 26 December*

With the way easter falls and thanks to the royals - 3days booked gets me 11 days off :cheer:

Now if you guy's had remained within the empire - you too would have had an extra bank holiday next week. :Flip::uk:

That's exactly what I have now, no royal wedding day here but next Wednesday is a holiday

Here is the Russian list below:
1 Jan New Year (5 days off)
7 Jan Christmas
23 Feb Day of a defender of Motherland
8 Mar Women's Day
1 May Labor Day
9 May Day of the Victory (WWII)
12 Jun Day of Russia
4 Nov Day of people solidarity (no one knows what we celebrate on this day)

Here are the Canadian ones. They vary by province, and not everyone gets every holiday. It really depends on your field/area of employment; ie. retail employees typically receive observe the fewest holidays and government offices observe the most. In most cases, for those who have to work a statutory holiday they receive compensatory time off, or premium wages.

In Nova Scotia, the ones I observe are highlighted.

New Years Day National Jan 1
Bank Holiday Quebec only Jan 2
Islander Day Prince Edward Island only Feb 21
Family Day Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan only Feb 21
Louis Riel Day Manitoba only Feb 21
Heritage Day Yukon only Feb 25
Good Friday National Apr 22 (2011)
Easter Monday National Apr 25 (2011)
Victoria Day National May 23
National Aboriginal Day Northwest Territories only Jun 21
St. Jean Baptiste Day Quebec only June 24
Canada Day National Jul 1
Nunavut Day Nunavut only Jul 9
Civic Holiday All except Quebec Aug 1
Discovery Day Yukon only Aug 15
