Possiable trade

I'm thinking of trading my FZ6 in for a 2008 FJR 1300. I got a chance to ride one today, and it was a dream. It would fit my iding style perfect. I really hate to get rid of the FZ and be shunned by FZ6-forum.com, but I think it's just a matter of time. Have any of ou guys owned a FJR?

I'm a big man(6'1, 250lbs) and the FJ fits perfect. I ride with 3 guys that have BMW's and alot of gear. I have stuffed and crammed alot of stuff into the FZ, but think I have reached my touring limit with the acessories. I have a GPS, Autocom, XM, and other things that I want to be a perminant fixture on my bike. With the FZ it just feels temporary, with the soft bags I remove all the time.

My friend has an '04 FJR, and it really is a sweet ride. Very powerful, nimble (vs Honda ST1300) and looks great. I really like the bigger sport touring bikes, but right now I do not need that style of bike. Some day I will own one (or a Triumph Sprint ST).

I do not think you will be shunned here(possibly cross fingers), at least, not by me. Peoples needs change, along with social, spiritual, and political aspects as time goes on, get what fits your current needs and lifestyle. And enjoy the new chapter in your motorcycle book! :rockon:

I have a friend with an FJR. He has hard bags on it and loves it. I looked at one at the dealer but they are HUGE...much too big for me. If you tour a lot, it seems like a great bike.

CanadianFZ6 has one...I believe he sold his FZ6, bought an FJR, and then bought another FZ6 (has both now)...but my facts could be a little off.

If I were getting a big sport-touring bike, it'd likely be the FJR.

I looked at the FJR.... liked it and may yet own one... I would get rid of the Harley though

A good friend and colleage of mine has one, I must admit if I was to go for a bigger touring bike it would definately be the FJR, nice bike. It's sporty enough whilst still being practical :thumbup:

Your facts are correct... I missed my FZ6 so much, I bought another after trading in my first one to get the FJR. Both bikes are awesome... The FZ6 does it all and I have the most fun riding. The FJR is my choice on long freeway rides. The engine produces so much torque and power, it will wheelie (believe it or not) far easier than the FZ6. The FJR has much better wind and weather protection and the ajdustable windscreen is one of the best features on the bike. The seat is wider and more comfortable than the FZ6. The seating position is about the same. The hydraulic clutch and gearbox are smooth and precise. The hard luggage fits a full sized helmet and can be removed in seconds. The bike looks awesome, with or without the luggage attached. One caveat, be careful cornering the FJR... Although it feels like a big FZ6 (despite being 650lbs it feels very flickable) it scrapes pegs very easily.... Exiting a corner with a handful ot throttle... you either wheelie or spin the rear tire. I have an '05 model (left over new) with a 5 speed... I have heard the later models (have 6 speed) are a little less wheelie prone... It's a gentleman's sport bike to be sure. You need to have respect for it's power more so than the FZ6.

I took the bike to the dealership so they could inspect and give me a trade in value. I was discusted with what they came back with! $4500 for a 2007 with over $1500 in mods and around 3,000 miles. Needless to say I didn't do anything today. I'm going to put a add in the local paper and see if there is any interest., but i'm thinking I'm a couple months early though.

I don't know but $4,500 may be a good price for a trade in. Don't count on mods increasing the value of the scoot. It is still an '07 FZ6, regardless of the cool changes you have done. The dealership still needs to sell it an make a little bit of money. Remember some of the folks here have gotten '07s OTD for about $6,200.

That's true, but if that's all I'm going to get then I'll keep it and just buy the new bike. I just can't stand being out a few thousand for 6 months of use. I guess i should have know that the value would have droped very quickly.

I just traded in my 2006 fjr for a leftover 2007 fz6. I only have about 170 miles on the fz6, but I'm not missing the fjr. I rode the fjr cross country this past Sept. It was comfortable and it's a great bike with good wind protection but it is probably 170 heavier and taller. I like getting my feet more securely on the ground. The fz6 is much sportier and more nimble. I think I'll be able to deal with the loss of the electric w/s. I can get Givi saddlebags and trunk so the storage should not be an issue. For me at 5' 10" the seating position is slightly more comfortable on the fz6 but the seat is less padded. Not a problem because I have an Air Hawk cushion. In closing I think the fz6 will be more "fun" and the fjr was a bigger, heavier and taller bike. I can do everything I did on the fjr even if I have to stop for breaks more often. For a lot less money I have a very satisfying bike. Good luck with either choice.

I'm not saying the FZ isn't one hell of a fun bike, just not right for the riding I find myself doing lately. With the lack of trade in value, I will wind up keeping it and just buying the FJ as well.

fjr ownership

I have owned an 06 since may of 06 and put about 23k miles on it. It is great. In oct of 06 I purchased an fz6 used off ebay and absolutely love it also. I am 5'10" about 245 and really like the flickability of the fz6 especially when you are going on a shorter ride(less than 200 miles) it is really nice through the twisties whereas the fjr is alot heavier. More get up and go but still alot of weight to be throwing around. Keep the fz6 and buy the fjr. You will be happy you did. You probably won't get much on the resale of the fz6 anyway. All brands of mc are having pricing problems (ie recession) good luck.
