Pocket Knives

I am going camping in a couple weeks and am looking to get some kind of knife for the trip. I dont really have any experience camping or which knives would be good to buy. I want it small enough to fit in my pocket with my cell phone(no monster 6 inch knife when it is folded). Any help is appreciated. This is where I started.

Would also like to be able to carry it around in the city. I live in Massachusetts. Not entirely sure of the law but I think that there is know switchblades, double sided blade or butterfly knifes. Just a plain old knife will do.

I carry a small kershaw. It fits into my pocket with a clip on the outside. Just one push on the back side of the knife and the blade swings open. This is not a switchblade. Just Google it to get an idea what they look like. I always carry mine.

I have always carried a Benchmade also known as Bali-Song(Benchmade.com). They are a great Oregon company. They have a knife wizard to help you select the right knife for you, I am a big fan of there axis lock. Plus they have Life-sharp. You can send your knife back to the factory and they will clean, sharpen and send it back to you for free.

My old Dad lived in the States for a while. He bought me an 'Old Timer' back, I used & abused it for a long time until I lost it. A great tool.

How about a Leatherman? Lots of handy tools in one pocket knife. I've got one and it's very well made and very handy!

It depends on what you are doing whilst camping. A multi-tool(leatherman etc) ia very handy in most situations but if you are going hunting/ trapping you will want something more specialist. also serrated knives are good but a pain to sharpen. If you want quality you'll have to pay more but its better than buying a crap knife 2 or 3 times.

I carry a Kershaw as well. It's crazy sharp and high quality. If you want something more camping oriented, take a look at the Buck line - however they're not as easy to carry on a day to days basis as a Kershaw

When we were up at D'Rose cabins in Leakey my swiss army knife came in handy a couple of times. I think it's this one, It has a locking blade.

I normally carry my dad's old Case XX. Dad was killed in an accident in 1974. The knife is probably around 40 years old or so. I also have a couple of Old Timers that are over 25 years old. You find a good knife, ya stay withit.
