I'm a 23 year old college student and I barely float by with my bills to part of owning a bike is having insurance medical dental and life oh maybe auto
The second part or should I say second listed first and most important part is having gear all your gear should fit well and buy it as you need it , just commuting? Just get a helmet gloves and jacket please where pants if you can afford more down the road get some riding pants too
The guy that said all that to you was right he was not nice about it but he was correct, take his advice with a grain of salt the moral was get gear or do what you can to get gear. I went to cycle-gear after my birth day with a few bucks and they had a nice alpine star jacket on clearance for 150 ish and was reg priced 500 so good deals are not ever missing
Please take the MSF basic riders course and ride with all the gear you own you won't regret spending thousands of dollars on gear if you never pay a medical bill or your life
Stay safe don't ride to impress anyone
