James ordered a fishing rod, priced at $3.56. Unfortunately, James lives in a very remote part of Greenland and the import rules there forbid any package longer than 4 feet to be imported.
The fishing rod was 4 feet and 1 inch, just a little too long, so how can the fishing rod be mailed to James without breaking the rules? Ideally James would like the fishing rod to arrive in one piece!

I dont mean to bring this up as a dispute, but if a fishing rod was only 1 inch over the allowed length, why could you not just get a 4 foot long box that was a little wide (like 3 inches) and have the rod bent? it doesnt hurt the fishing pole to be bent that little and would be a lot more efficient than a 4' by 4' box.....

Have to agree. It would fit in a box 4' x 1' without bending. 4x4 would be overkill.

Bending the rod is not really in the spirit of the riddle guys.
The idea is to find a solution without changing the shape of the rod.
