How many children are in bare feet?

Sure thing:
12 children total
6 are wearing socks
4 are wearing shoes
3 are wearing shoes & socks

The trick to this question is realizing that the statement of 3 children wearing both shoes and socks is already included in the 6 wearing socks and 4 wearing shoes statements.

To break that down:
3 are wearing both shoes and socks
3 are wearing ONLY socks
1 is wearing ONLY shoes

If you look at this break down, you'll see that 6 children are wearing socks and 4 children are wearing shoes, but that these groups over lap, adding up to only 7 of the children.

12-7 = 5 barefoot children
