OT: Bought a Dirt Bike (my first)!!!

$1,000 got me a 1999 KTM 125sx with a lot of recent work done to it.

Bought it late last night; I can't concentrate at work today...:thumbup:

I bought a YZ250F a few months ago...after growing up on dirtbikes I decided to get back into it. It is a blast, but I did break my collar bone using my street skills( used the front brake in a turn and washed out front end)....use back brake more in the dirt than front break..

Congrats on the purchase. You'll love your KTM. I've had several now. I race off road and its by far the best off road race bike there is. I loved my 125sx... Great bike.

Yeah...all the suspension, brakes, etc. seem to be top of the line. Supposedly the 98-99 50mm sx forks are a hot item. Bike starts on the first kick.

The front brake is Brembo but needs some major adjustments as it does not provide much stopping power (I'd like to stunt the thing a little bit too). Hopefully my mountain bike racing past will keep me from washing the front toooo many times.

it looks like you got a good deal, I raced dirt bikes for about 12 years, i had sponsors from the likes of No Fear, Sobe, Utopia Optics, and loved every sec. of it, had to sell the YZ250F to pay for the first year of college.......i still miss it....

ohh and yeah all my injuries have come from the dirt as well! LOL

Good for you!!! I started doing trails about 2 years ago and it's a blast. All I can tell ya is get some good protective gear. Take some time to get to know the bike. Riding dirt is not like riding in the street. Oh, and have FUN.

Just bought some Fox F3 boots for $210 shipped (closeout price?). For my ride on Sunday I'll be wearing my full-on track day gear.....leather one-piece, street helmet, full-g glvoes, SIDI race boots, back/chest protector, and probably some jeans and a sweat-shirt over the top to keep me warm and things clean.

So.....aside from the boots, that is pretty good protection, right? I'll be takin it easy but still.

They say 'If your not falling down, you're not having fun'. You might think about getting some riding pants. They fit a little loose and can take the wear and tear, save your jeans. Elbow pads and shin/knee guards are a must too. :thumbup: :thumbup:

Wow...I'm really soar today. My back muscles are the worst.

I fell quite a few times when my front tire would tuck...this happend because of deep sand, ruts, and a major lack of skill. I also crashed once climbing a hill when my front tire hit a big tree root. There were some really tight switch-backs with deep sand and a lot of trees around them.....I figured out that the bike would not turn without a lot of gas but I didn't have the skill/confidence to just nail it, so I was stuck somehwhere in between.

I hit a few small jumps without crashing. Popped a lot of wheelies and crashed a few times while trying to do large 2nd gear WOT donuts in deep sand.

Soar!

EDIT - road racing boots and helmets do not work well off road. I ripped one of my boots and my eyes kept getting dust/sand in them.

I want one.....looks like fun. I miss the dirtbike days. I was still riding at 8 months pregnant (never fell, thank god.) you need dirt gear and some goggles. That is a very physical sport, you'll be sore for a few days. Congrats on the purchase. :thumbup:
