still yamaha has not for 2009 have 2 lamps on when on low beam...so heres what I did, one side runs a H1 lamp, the other side (high beam ) runs a H4 lamp, H4 lamps have both hi and low beam built in to the bulb, but only the high beam is wired , I took a female spade from a used vehical, thats the terminal in the female clip that plugs in most automotive headlamps, secured 10" of wire to it , slipped the spade into the empty slot on the block of the yamaha plug end for the H4 bulb , which is the H4s low beam , then joined it to the hot wire of the H1 bulb...no more comments .....hey buddie you got a headlamp out ! :thumbup:

Quick and simple..... but you run the risk of melting the H4 socket, if you run the high beam.... your solution does not turn off the low beam element when the high beam comes on. Instead of 60 watts, you would be asking the socket to shed the heat from ~110 W.

You are on the right track; but there is a wire available that is tapped into the lo beam circuit, that shuts off when the high is 'lit'. This is likely outlined in at least one of the head light mod threads on this board..... I'm sure someone can point out the right wire to tap into.

You can also get the low beam wire at the low/high beam switch. That is what I did and it was much easier than removing the airbox.
