Why bother going to a 600 supersport, your really not gaining much except a seating position. If your really feeling you need more top end look at upgrading to the FZ1 or R1. Its a better investment than a 600 supersport thats for sure. (imo)
Unless your having cash baths though, probably want to figure out how much it will be to fix the FZ6 and if its sellable before making a choice.
Maybe fix the FZ6 and see how you go, if your 25 next oct (assuming next year) then your going to see a massive insurance drop at that point, and can really look at the options. Would be terrible if you jumped into another 600 and decided in a year you still wanted a 1000.
In the end its really up to you.

ya when i turn 25 ins. for R1 should be around $1500 (give or take a few hundred bucks) with state farm

That would be twice what I pay for my Fz6 with progressive (I'm 29).

As for upgrading to a 1, my neighbor has an 09 R1 that he let's me ride occassionally. And I have to say (just IMO), I really don't get why he bought it. Rarely does he take it to the track, and he rides about 20% of what I do. Sure, it's quick, but impractical for daily use. I blast it down the highway, and it's fun, but I would never be able to have it as my only bike. I go home, grab the fizzer, and then use it for everything other than grocery shopping. I'd get exhausted doing that on a liter bike. Oh, and he also has wrecked three R1's, but doesn't seem to think it has anything to do with his riding

if you're going o be a track star, go litre. But if it's your only cycle, I'd fix the 6 and use it as intended.

I think it was FZ1inNH said '08 FZ1 are going for $6800ish? That is one heck of a deal!

I guess there are a couple of questions you need to ask yourself:

1) Does a new bike and higher insurance fit the budget?
2) What do you want to do with the bike? eg: Track days, touring, communting, mixed use, etc?
3) What are you lacking in the FZ? In other words, what do you hope to gain in a new bike that you don't have already?

The beauty of the FZ is that it does all of the above pretty well, is inexpensive to operate and I assume you are on the way to paying it off. The used motorcycle market is dead right now, unless it is C.H.E.A.P.

Tough call.

You should fix and mod the FZ6, then buy an FZ1 and an R1. Then mod both of those. If I find out you haven't taken my advice, I will be gravely disappointed.

It all depends on your preference, but you already know that. Out of the options you listed I would get the R1, but I would also consider the new fireblade.

Definitely, I should have clarified that. The R1 is just my baseline for a liter, probably not the best comparo.
