If you were to chose an answer to this question at random, what is the probability that you will guess correctly?

a) 25%
b) 50%
c) 65%
d) 25%

P.S: I do not have the answer.... 3 of us just wasted half an hour talking it over to no result...

If you were choosing at random you can't take into account that 25% is up there 2 times do you have a 1 in 4 chance

25%

I love math and science, but did poorly at statistics. So here's my evaluation of the obvious:

If the answer is 25%, you have a 2 in 4 chance (50%) in getting it right.
If not, you have a 1 in 4 chance (25%) in getting it right.

This is an interesting question, based on how it's worded. The question implies that we don't know what the answer choices are, just that there are 4 choices, thus making the decision completely random. Given that assumption, one could argue you only have a 25% chance of getting the question right as you shouldn't know there are two answer choices with this as an option.

In another scenario, let's assume that you DO know the answer choices listed below. One could assume that standard probability leads us to believe given the 4 options, only 1 can be correct, thus 25%. However, knowing now that there are two listed as 25%, the correct % answer is 50%, but the odds of picking that one answer (choice B) is still only 25%.;)

So I'd still go with 25% chance of getting the right answer regardless.

The other side is the question of which answer are you looking for? Are you looking for a value? Or a specific answer (A,B,C,D).
