Odometer hack/reset

I recently saw a used bike add on a website. The guy had two posts for the same bike, the one had 24,000km on the clock and the other 4,087km. I now that it's the same bike, as the picture matches and the second post was made shortly after the first. Maybe the guy only has 1 pic of that bike, but is selling two so he used the same pic.

Anyway, this got me thinking. How reliable is the odometer readings of used bikes? Can't you hack and reset the reading to sell the bike at a better price? :spank:

I know old car dealers used to do this...

Haha tcmalker! I suppose you have to specify nowadays that it is the odometer and not the 'trip' odometer.

The only way to really judge mileage therefore is by checking the bike out...

Our mileage is logged on a computer when it goes for it's yearly MOT inspection.
This is shown when you get the log book for it as a new owner.It's just about knocked clocking on it's head in this country.

BTW,this post does sound a bit like 'How do I clock my bike?'
