Now I'm asking for help/ideas

I went on a "extremely" hard ride over the weekend to my usual spot. When I say "extremely hard" I mean my bike would spend about a hr never dropping below 8k and mainly staying above 10k, then hit a slower road where it was 1st gear only dropping to maybe 6k then WOT to 14k and doing this for about 30min, went back to the fast road, stopped for about a hour then did it all again then back home, and the ride too and from was about a hr long at 8k and up as well. So basically it was about 2 1/2hrs of a 10k average break followed by another 2 1/2hr 10k average. I got home parked the bike lubed chain, looked it over as I always do after beating on it and didn't touch it again until the next morning on my way to work. That morning the bike started right up nothing unusual but after a short maybe 3mile ride to the gas station that I stop at every morning when I went to start it back up is what puzzled me. I put the key in turned it on, speedo did its song and dance then hit start, it fired right up and ran for maybe 1sec then shut down, check engine light came on and I'm pretty sure there was a 19 on the bottom on the speedo but no letters in front of it. So I turned the key off and tried again, same thing, fired up then shut down instantly with check engine light on and again I think the number 19 with no letters just 19 then went blank. Turned the bike back off pulled the key put it back in, started it up and it hasn't done it since. I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary since beating I the bike other than that, no wierd sounds, smells or other problems its still runs like a champ so is puzzling me why it did that. Anyone have any ideas?
 
Had a similar problem with my bike. I filled up at the gas station. Tried to start it, it began to turn over and stopped. Tried again and it acted like the battery was dying. All of the sudden the screen / ecu rebooted. I was able to start it and get home. Thought my battery was going, so I bought a new lithium iron battery for it. However, I took it out last weekend (with original battery) with no issues. Beginning to wonder if there is something goofy going on with the gasoline I used. Bought some seafoam, too. Wonder if there is something wrong with the gas you got, as well.

Hmm. That's is wired. Maybe had a electric brain fart. I like to disconnect the battery overnight every so often to give the accessories a chance to rest. I know it sounds wierd, but even your cell phone needs a break now and then. I don't know what that code is. Does anyone have like a service manual on this bike?
 
have you tried turning it off and on again?

seriously, unplug the battery for 15 mins and see if it's the same.

after that i'd start checking safety switches and connections

+1 I didn't think about that. The switch that will kill it if it gets turned over. Or kickstand.
 
Yeah when it happened It turned off, I cycled the key it did it again, took the key out and hasn't happened since. I haven't unhooked the battery in a while but I'm leaving for Chicago on Monday and was planning on unhooking it before I went. The bike hasn't acted up like that since Monday, it did it twice back to back and has been fine ever since. I looked over all the kill/safety switches and all seems to be fine, it baffles me though as to what caused it in the 1st place. I've tried to make it happen again but can't so I have no clue
 
According to the service manual, fault code 19 is the sidestand switch. The switch may be faulty and registered incorrectly...

Good call! Forgot about the error code. Wonder if the sidestand spring is week?

What's that about fault code 19 and the ecu?

I'm not entirely sold on the side stand thing because the way it shut down, I can have it in gear and flip it down and it will just kill the bike, no check engine light or anything else. Unless im misunderstanding yall about what your talking about with the side stand. When this happened the check engine light came on and then everything went blank.

Also how can you tell the difference between a fault code and error number, will there be a prefix before the number? I'm not 100% certain on what it said because it happened so quick but I'm 75% sure it said just 19

Sometimes when there is a power loss the ECU will throw out indiscriminate codes. True, the side stand switch should not throw a code but I would still check it out and IIRC the bike should still start in neutral. Check all plugs including ECU....
 
Yeah the bike started up fine both times it just immediately shut right back down, and it was in neutral. You saying to check all the plugs just got me thinking....

I was having a problem with my coolant reservoir a while back and I originally thought it was cracked because it would blow coolant out all the time just about, but when I lifted the tank I found that the overflow/vent tube had come out so it was blowing coolant and steam directly under the rear of the gas tank. That also happens to be where the ecu plug is I believe? I guess it's possible that during my thrashing of the bike it could have started leaking again getting pretty hot so I guess I'll be pulling the tank and having a look see.

Yep, PM me with an address to mail it to as a PDF file (year bike too)..

Also, its very easy to remove the kickstand switch and disassemble it, pretty simple.

Re-assemble after cleaning with di-lectric grease.

I didn't remove the switch wire harness but did it on a stool right next to the bike(preventive maintainance)...
