Not a good day for someone...

Hate to bare bad news, but I thought I would post a reminder of caution to us all. I was taking my girls to a movie this afternoon and driving north up the highway. I saw off in the distance a single headlight driving south on a frontage road next to the highway. It was a good ways away and I thought to myself..."there's a lucky dude getting some riding in on a chilly cloudy day". Then as I watched him go into a turn and he low sided the bike! "Oh man!" I shouted. I couldn't believe it. He didn't seem to be going too fast or anything and all I could do is feel bad for the guy. Unfortunately I didn't have an exit near to assist him, but I think the car that came up after him stopped to help. The bike did a few tumbles and he appeared to stand right up....shaken I am sure. All I can think of is he hit gravel or cinders from the winter or just had cold tires. At least he appeared to have the proper gear on. I felt for the guy as he was likely looking to get back out there after a long winter.

I think the month of April is the month where the most number of motorcycle accidents occur within a twelve month period due to the seasonal riders starting to get back onto the saddle after the long winter layoff and all of the Newbies hitting the road at the same time.

Add another one for the month of April after your post.

Definitely need to be careful out there - especially on these roads up north. We still have a lot of sand and junk on them. Can't wait for some heavy rains to clear them off.

Such a pity to hear about bikes going down, especially when it's for no reason. Hope the guy is okay. Make sure you keep an eye out for junk on the road, I would imagine there's still plenty of sand on the roads...

It can get pretty nasty in the corners these days. Here, we haven't had a real rainfall in weeks. Actually we've had no rain at all since the roads cleared, and that means a lot of salt and dust. There's a lot of debris, especially in the lane middle.

I've on several occations felt the rear tire lose it's traction when accelerating hard. It's probably a combination of cold tarmac and tires, and that dust I was talking about. Be careful out there!

'Tis the silly season. After riding all winter and only coming across the odd bike, I feel like my left hand is permanently waving at the moment.
