These two guys served in the Norwegian army until a few years ago, one of them as an officer, the other one as an elisted.
They wanted to establish a security business in Africa, in Uganda to be more precise. It was supposedly a branch of SIG (Special Intervention Group), which have been known to operate in different hostile areas of the world. Not mercenaries, but more like a private security company.
They had all their paperwork in Uganda in order, but as business seemed to not becoming what they hoped, they went to Congo to see if their services could be of any use there. They did wear military ID's, and brought a shot gun with them.
Then their driver was shot. In the middle of the jungle, that is. Why would anyone shoot their driver, especially if that driver was the only one that knew where they where going? The two guys claim they were victims of road robbers, but the military court in DRC saw those acclaimed robbers as vitnesses to the whole event, totally disregarding the fact that the two Norwegians had a fair amount of money on them...
Now they've got five death sentences each, where one of them is espionage on the behalf of the Norwegian king (bacause of the ID's and a photo of one of them taken while they were in the military) ... It's so absurd, it's funny. On a side note, this is the first time since WW2 that any Norwegian has got the death sentence abroad. Let's hope their appeal will be granted, and that the corrupt regime can see that this is pretty far out.
