Hi

I have mentioned this in other threads but please can you all give me some advice.

I have a 08 fz6 just done about 1000 miles, since the 600 mile service it is really whining. It starts after riding for about 20 mins and seem to come from the right as you sit on it. It is matched to the speed of the bike or gear box and not the engine. I also have noticed a very hot smell when I stop from that side. The only time the engine noise is louder than the whining is above 9k.

At the service I asked if the chain was too tight but they said it was fine or is it me being more relaxed with my riding and hearing more !!!! It is not the brakes as I have eliminated that and the engine temp is fine between 77 and 90 deg

I am loathed to take it to the dealer as if like most car garages all you will get is "thats standard mate" and they won't look for a fault but only fix it when it is finally broke.

I suppose I am worried I could be doing long term damage. I know there have been threads about noise before but this is annoyingly loud and taking away the enjoyment of riding

Any ideas or help please

Chris

Check the oil level, sounds simple, but you should double check EVERYTHING when your bike has been worked on out of your sight. The guy that does works on it doesn't have to worry about whether he's done everything correctly when you are 20 miles from the edge of nowhere and your ride is broken on the side of the road because he was in a hurry a get a cuppa. I paid for this expensive lesson a lot of years ago and now I check, I check, I check, and then I check again, to be sure. GRUMPY

The sound you are describing has to be coming from the clutch basket, clutch, transmission because you say it does not match engine speed. I would 2nd checking the oil; as it runs in the clutch and transmission as well. Check the level and actually put some on your finger and look at it and make sure it looks like new oil and is not scorched or that maybe the mechanic put the wrong fluid in there..they all make a whining kind of turbo sound from what I've read.

Latest update--- still been worried about this noise (getting paranoid) it is definatley the gear box. When I am riding all can hear is this whine, so a biker friend took it for a spin. He has several 4 cylinders so is used to them. His verdict was it is fine , nothing wrong so it must be me. I was re-assured.

Until yesterday, I washed my bike for the first time with just warm soapy water and a rinse down, she looked good so I mounted her for a good ride.

As soon as I hit more than 30 mph the whine had changed tone and there was a vibration. I get the usual buzz at 5k but this was like that but all the way through the rev band. The only time the bike felt right was at 10k (for a short over take)

This is getting to me and taking away the enjoyment, if this is standard the fz6 may not be for me, I want to walk away from a ride without feeling like I have spent alll day drilling holes in concrete.

I am going out now for a ride to make up my mind and if it is the same I will take it to dealer to see what they say.

Can you test ride another one at the dealers? that way you will know if its you or the bike.
If your not happy return it to the dealer every time.

Good luck
