My MSF instructor was an older guy who had been riding on the street some 40 years and never had an accident. When asked how he managed that he said: "Always assume that every vehicle, pedestrian or animal on the road are trying to kill you!"

You don't have to ride paranoid but always expect them to do the unexpected and be constantly thinking of your evasive strategy should they do what you don't expect....
Exactly the way to see it. I always follow speed limit or just below it in addition to all this. :Flash:

as you have mentioned on countless occasions, when it comes to situations like this it's all muscle memory.
It wasn't part of my initial and automatic instinct and by the time I'd come to a full stop, he was already moving forward and off the road.

You can also incorporate your horn into your muscle memory, yeah, it's another thing to add. I have. It's automatic for me, my horn will activate!

In Jersey they call them "Pinies". I think they made one of the "X-Files" based on "Pinies" If any of you are X-File buffs you know the one I'm talking about.:spank::spank:
There used to be places in the Pines you could get lost and never found. Especially if you where caught near a still.
Alright! I'll stop the name calling
Actually it's a part of Jersey culture a lot of people never hear about....

Great instincts Erci! That is what part of riding is about!

Oh yeh, the Pinies! They are their own different breed here. It's like NJ with a little bit of West Virginia mixed in. The Deliverance banjo song runs through everyone's mind when we drive by the Pineland area. Also the mobsters loved the Pine Barons to bury their 'problems'. :D

I always assume everyone/everything else on the road is trying to kill me.

Cause they are! The voices in my head were always right!

Maybe that's why bikers live life to the fullest. Daily, near death experience and all that.
