need help with clutch adjustment

I recently rebuilt my clutch pack on my 71 yamaha at1-c and cant pull enough slack out of the line to enguage the clutch into free spin is there a shim or washer i might need to put in to push the clutch further out?
i put the clutch in and ran it for a month then after my bud rode it wouldnt free spin the clutch so it has to be shifted without the clutch lever right now cause it doesnt work no matter how tight i adjust it :rant:
sorry i cant be more technical on my wording i normally only work on trucks.

never mind i must have added a washer for some stupid reason causing the locking washer to loosen and freeing the clutch nut
