she is hot. she is a very nice person. I dont even know if she speaks english or not and have only overheard her talking in punjabi. She just immigrated from india and moved in with my aunt and uncle. She is from my aunt's side who is not a blood relation so there is no problem with genetic coding or blood relations. Ive only ever had her say hi to me.

I have been thinking of getting married lately more and more and more. If things start rolling with this girl (if she even speaks english FFS) then I think the bells will toll for me.

AHHH!!!! what to do, what to do...

keep in mind my family is a traditional indian family. if things are not dealt with very sensitively it will all be very awkward.

I am thinking of getting my little cousin (like a little brother to me) to try to lay some groundwork and get me an inroad. I'm going for dinner with him tonight. I'm gonna grill him for info.

Why are girls so damned amazing? Seriously, why?

I'm going to skip over all familial and cultural considerations. I can't give any advice on that one.

I'll just say this.

If all she's ever said is "hi" to you, then you've never had a conversation with this woman. Ask yourself how you can be in love with somebody you've never talked to.

I went ice fishing last year with an Albertan, and he got so wasted he shat himself, now you want to marry your cousin?!?!!? Damn dude, whats in the water over there?...

I really don't know what to say, man. Other than to +1 what Fred said :)

Best of luck to you tho!

First recognize that what you are experiencing is infatuation, not love.

I understand that you are cousins by marriage, not blood. You mentioned that your family is a traditional Indian family, so there shouldn't be any problems with marrying a cousin that is related by marriage.

My advice; Establish a friendship, get to know each other (at least a good 6 months of quality time together), if it leads to something more then follow the customs of your family to take the next steps.

I think your inside thoughts came out Lone, most people wouldn't admit this let alone post it!

In all seriousness, this is primarily a cultural/family issue.
Okay so she's NOT blood related? That's good, but I still don't think you should pursue this.

You don't even know her, you just saw her and you think she's hot, okay, so think about her at night when you pet your dog or whatever kids call it nowadays and leave it at that.

I have no idea how your culture views this situation. You might risk not only alienating your cousin, but also your entire family.

If you're seriously thinking about going for someone in your own family, YOU NEED TO GET OUT IN THE REAL WORLD. Meet some women. Try to go after people who aren't even extended family.

it would never work out. and no im not really "in love" with her. she's just really quite astonishing. she has the beauty of a dove along with all its grace and tenderness. a man could do much worse.

but found out she doesnt really speak english all that well. guess im gonna have to keep hunting.

:D

can't be "Lone"-Soldier all my life after all.....

You first say that you have a hot cousin who is not directly related to you, well I would say give it a go  The worrying part is when you mention that you was thinking of getting married to her .

Now we are all pretty use to your provocative style of posting (just to get a reaction) so I really hope this is one of them.

I don't have to explain why the idea of arranged marriages is so wrong to most people from a western culture.

We have several friends who are Indian so I am in no way knocking your culture/people, but I must emphasise that our friends are pretty much "westernised" (for want of a better word).

My sister works as a social worker in Bradford, UK, this city has one of the largest Indian communities in England, but there is a dispropotionately large number of marital problems (abused wives) within this culture/group, and generally these cases are also complicated by the families getting involved. Well at the end of the day it's the law of the land that counts.

As I said at the beginning I really hope you posted this thread to get a reaction, I really hope that it clicks between both of you and that you have a great time. Maybe after you've spoken to her you will find out if you really have something in common (other than family and religious "status").

All I can say is take it easy and if it really clicks take it to the next level  If it doesn't find yourself another girl of your choice.

Sorry that I shot off my mouth, I hadn't read this post when I posted my reaction to your first post, I wish you luck in finding a great gal

Indeed, my advice would we about the same. Always make a difference between attraction and love. If you don't make the difference and take attraction as love, then "love" is really complicated. Once you make the difference, and you feel love(I would describe it as the feeling that you become one, feeling what they do and backwards) , things get really easy and natural. Trust me ;)

Dude, it's like you're shopping for a car... You can't just decide to get married and just pick someone... unless of course you're into mail order brides... It will happen natually and probably with the last person you expect... You will never succeed choosing a mate logically...:spank:

mail order brides...

lol, well thanks to all who replied.

I was just kind of daydreaming when I wrote this after having come back from their house. She is quite hot after all...... :P

Thing is, I have in fact been thinking of an arranged marriage more and more in the last while. Not with this girl though (she's just hot that's the main attraction there I believe). But there is a lot to be said for arranged marriage in general. I know many people who I grew up with that are as western as they get but had arranged marriages. They are all happily married.

Of course there is a dark side to arranged marriage. There are the cases of retard males (but this is as common with arranged marriages as it is in non-arranged in my opinion....because we all know abused wives happen in non-arranged marriages as well VERY often, unfortunately).

But the thing about arranged marriage is it's a concept to marriage I am growing to appreciate more and more as time goes on. I have seen as many people that I know in happy and HEALTHY relationships that were arranged than I see in non-arranged.

What does arranged even mean? It does not mean you walk into a room to get married to a girl youve never seen or really talked to before. Arranged these days in western countries (and even back in India much of the time) means families get in touch with each other with suitable potential spouses. Then these two potential spouses get to know each other a little bit. They talk, they even date. Then after getting to know each other enough to formulate a decision....They give a yes or no. It is like the "courting" process of medieval Europe in many ways. If the girl says no.....no deal. If the guy says no...no deal.

It is not all that different from those things like LavaLife and Matchquest or whatever. Instead of a computer algorithm finding your mate....it is your family.

Why am I growing more receptive to this concept of arranged marriage more and more? Because I do not see myself getting married otherwise. I am attracted to the wrong kinds of girls. And the wrong kinds of girls are attracted to me. Several of my good friends have been in very difficult relationships that started off for a few YEARS as damn near ideal loving relationships. Well, things went a little sour in each of those cases. Why? because the type of people that they are. They like things and instant gratification. And long-term healthy relationships arent build on that.

I have given it some thought and come to a partial conclusion that the kind of girl who is truly sound and honest, and governed not by material desires but rather by her own heart and loving nature will be most readily accessible through an arranged marriage. Girls I have dated kind of fit the bill.....but not really. In the end they are just out for themselves and to have a good time. I would not be happy in the long run with that.

But at the same time, I want magic to happen. I want to feel that spring in my step and all that. My buddies that got arranged marriages do attest that it is possible and they enjoy it....but you have to be patient and smart in picking the right one...even through the arranged process.

So, going forward....I dont know. I am going to wait until I graduate and work for a year or two before I start the process on this. So its at least 2 years away from now. But I am inclined to go with an arranged marriage. If I dont stumble across the perfect woman in my own personal life before then....arranged it is!!

I know some married men who would consider their wives being unable to speak english a blessing... ;)

Seriously, that wouldn't be insurmountable, but as others have mentioned the rest of the family may not be big fans of the idea?
