My Stebel Installation

A friend recently brought me a Stebel Nautilus Compact from the UK as they are not available here. I installed it yesterday and yeah it's loud!

I got a right angled bracket and cut it to fit so that the horn mount fitted snugly against the corner of the bracket,

I used the piece I cut off the top of the bracket as reinforcing on the outside of the fairing, and mounted it with two 6mm bolts.

The fairing panel fits over this plate and hides it from the outside.

I stuck the relay on top of the ignitiion coil in front of the battery with double sided tape. However, it was visible when the tank was installed so I made a cover to hide it and protect it from the elements.

Nice work Andz! Very clean install! Good place for the realy. I ruined my 1st horn realy by not keeping it tuck away out of the elements (it got water in it).

Wow, the old Fizzers have a real advantage here.

Compare that simple bracket to what I had to bash together to get a good mounting point on my 07 fairing.

I had a strange occurrence yesterday.... went for a ride, and was nipping along the freeway at about 160 when the horn suddenly started blasting! If I flicked the switch it stopped, but a few km further it did it again. I stopped and unplugged the negative wire from the horn and carried on to my destination where I reconnected it.

On the way back I stayed under 130 and had no further incidents, apart from using it on a wayward cager for the first time :rockon:

So, any ideas? Vibration affecting the relay? I'm not really sure.

Thanks to Andz for pointing out the best place to put the Stebel Horn I recently bought to replace the stock one cars have been ignoring. I'd been putting off installation until I could find a neat place to put it.

Too complicated. I epoxied two tabs to the inside of the fairing and used 2 zip ties to hold the horn in place. Super easy, not complicated, no new holes in the fairing and very convenient to remove and reinstall horn if i need to move it for something (cut ties and use new ones).

The relays are known to quit, probably not stick on.... Check the original wire (trigger wire) for the original horn and see if the horn button is sticking (see if power goes on and off as you push the horn button-with either a test light or plug the old horn back in).. If it isn't sticking, its the relay...

if its mounted up on the frame/fairing vibration wouldn't affect it.....

I have my Stebel horn mounted to the main steel fairing support, left side. I also wired the relay under the black, left side fairing cover, making it easier to get to should it heed to be replaced...

It's not given any trouble since then and has worked when I hit the button so I am going to leave well alone for now!
