My front Tyre only lasted 800km's!

Ok, recently i had to replace the tyres on my Cafe fighter FZ6...and seeing as i only ever ride it in sports mode in the Twisties, i put a set of Pirelli Supercorsa's on the bike...Soft Compound 1 on the front, Soft Compound 2 on the rear...

Well, the results have been spectacular...the tyres have worked brilliantly, stick like poop to a blanket, and with heaps of feedback...not one sphincter puckering moment...a few squirms, and lurid slides, but nothing scary!

The weather here is rather mild at this time of year, and the little lightened FZ6 struggles to get the tyres warm enough anyway, so i have been running 30psi front, 33 psi rear, or 29 and 32 on real cold days....

Well after a rather decent ride on the weekend, keeping a determined Z1000 either in site, or behind me in the tight stuff, i got home, and apart from my tyres looking decidely like they had been ridden hard, the front was now down to the legal tread depth indicators....the rear aint far behind, but the front is toast...legally! being a track tyre though, there is still plenty of grip available though...although the front tyre does now feel a little bit "brittle, or harder" to feel now, than the rear...

Anyway, just thought i would share my amazement, i never thought an FZ6 could kill a tyre in 800km's!

That is a phenominal amout of wear. I reckon the reduced tyre pressure was a contributing factor.
Then having said that the tyre did last for 800 km of racing, so it's not to bad:BLAA:

Oh, and racing, nah, just a bit of flip floppin through the twisties... :rockon:

Only following the lead, that my riding buddies give me....

It is my obligation to push the FZ as hard as i can, whilst still remaining on my side of the road, and not threatening other road users...regardless, it still freaks me out! 800km's!!!! that's an insanely soft tyre....amazing, but insane....all other track tyres i have tried, pale in comparison in terms of grip, warm up, and confidence...pirelli...you rock my world!

On my Q2s I've changed my tire pressure philosophy over the past year. I run 31 up front, and 29 in the rear after speak with the tire guy at the track. Try it and see what you think.

I have a set of Q2's on my TRX, which is a week away from finished, cant wait to try them on a lightened bike, with tweaked motor, and renowned good handler...with revamped suspension....but i am thinking, for the first time ever, that higher pressure on the front tyre, is the way to go, now that i have tried a real track tyre, with correctly set up suspenders for riding in sports mode....

Having said that 800k's out of a race tyre is fairly respectable

Yeah, expensive it is, but this bike is now only a "Fair weather" bike, only get's ridden on sunny days, no commuting, touring, etc...

In fact, with my insurance, through Shannon's....(the only buggers that would insure the bike for what it has cost me to build), i am only "Allowed" to ride the bike a certain amount of kilometres per year....

So, in essence, i should only go through about 2-3 sets of Tyres a year at max i reckon...

Don't mess with the pressures...lol. They are wearing perfectly, and not losing their shape. They are doing what they are supposed to do...they are stickies. As the weather warms up, you'll want to put more air in, but seriously...If it ain't broke...don't fix it.:thumbup: Always wanted to try a set, but I'd be putting new tyres on inside a week. It's bad enough with the BT016's.
