Mesh vs Riding Jeans

I have a set of textile pants(for cooler weather) and a set of riding jeans for warmer weather. Jeans have the kevlar lining in knees,seat,hips and outer thigh, and armor in hips and knees. I was curious if a set of armored mesh pants would offer more protection then the jeans or am I just wasting my money on mesh pants?

I have both riding jeans and mesh pants. I haven't crashed tested them yet, so I can't offer much insight as to which would hold up better. My riding jeans aren't armored so I guess I feel a little safer in the mesh that are.

Just curious, what brand of riding jeans do you have?

If the textile pants have armor they will provide more impact relief. The jeans will give you some protection against rash but non against impact. The mesh may not give much protection against rash. It is a toss up.

I have red route jeans, the street jean model. They didn't come with armor but have internal pockets for knee and hip armor so I got those separately and put them in.

Wear the riding jeans underneath your mesh riding pants. By themselves, neither pants will offer much protection. However, when combined together, they should offer a greater degree of protection.

Have crash tested shift kevlar lined jeans. 48 mph slide from inside of inside lane, up at 48mph to a stop on the outside of the outside lane on my ass. Not a scratch on my body and still wear them over a year later. Just my experince though. I thought I was going to get up and be F.ed up. Not a scratch, just some heat from the friction.

sucks you crashed but comforting that the jeans held up. I think with my armored jeans I might just skip mesh pants, I doubt the armor in mesh pants better then armored I bouight for my jeans.

They sell under pants with hip pads you can wear under the jeans, A star and Dainese they are popular with the race crowd under their one piece leather suits. Getting back in the next race is more inportant to them than walking away from the crash I think.

i always wanted a pair of shift jeans. do you have the torque or lowdown jeans? i have a pair of draggin "relaxed fit" in blue and a black set of sliders from comp accessories.com. the sliders are alot cheaper and almost the same quality of the draggin jeans. But i still wanna try the shift jeans one day.

FWIW, my everyday pants are the Shift Torque jeans but I always complement with Icon's knee/shin field armor. I find it a very comfortable combo. If I know I might be going a little harder I have a pair of motoport kevlar pants (still use the icon armor underneath).

Personally I'd go for the textile pants, for me jeans just don't do the job, kevlar or otherwise.

Unless it's bad weather I wear leathers so I can't really advise some decent textile pants plus I'm not sure if you have the same makes but if you have RST over there they are well priced for what they are

EDIT: Sorry, I've misread, I don't quite understand what you mean by mesh pants
