Major service coming up

Hi fellas,

Not been around these parts for a while due to family problems and health issues, but I would appreciate help with a service question. My 2005 FZ6-N had a routine service at 11550 miles (in May) so would it still be necessary to have the 12000 mile service done when the mileage reaches that level? Currently, I am about 60 miles short of the 12000 mile mark.

I have a Haynes manual, but I am not confident in my spanner wielding activities and I do not have any experience other than oil/filter changes and chain adjustments.Also, money is tight and the dealer estimates £400 for the service...

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

If it were my bike I wouldn't bother, but it's not.

I'd probably take the money and do something else with it (put it behind the bar at Ma Cameron's would be a good start!!).

Welcome to the forum!!!

The only thing I would look at would be syncing the throttle bodies (if they already did it, nevermind).

If they didn't, its cheaper (and not hard to do) to purchase a Carbtune tuner(or other) and do it yourself. If you can raise the tank, you can sync it... Its not a bike stopper, but getting it adjusted as close as possible will help reduce vibes and run better overall...

I mention "Carbtune" as it has NO LIQUIDS, is very easy to use, cost me about $80, shipped from England. A Yamaha shop, years ago, charged me over $120 to sync my FJR. (and they adjusted the wrong screw).

There's numerous threads about the subject. Yamaha made the FZ very simple to perform this service.

Other than that, lubing the clutch cable yourself (again, not hard to do) I think your fine..

Thanks fellas, I'll not bother having it done then. My brother has been tinkering with engines for many, many years and might be able to help me out - providing I can keep an eye on him

By the way Tex, are you a native of these parts or did you work here at one point? I'll be out on the town on Monday saying goodbye to a friend who's going to live in Columbia, Ohio, so there's a good chance some cash will indeed end up behind the bar at Ma's...

i had my 12000 mile service back in april and the yamaha dealer i took it to charged me £220 that included the mot aswell,so the dealer you took it to seems very expensive.
unfortunately i live in newcastle so no good for you.
