Magnetic tank bag is safe?

Hello sirs,
I want buy a tank bag, mototrek tank bag 14 lts magnetic. But I have doubt. If I break the bag can "fly" ?? Yes, i know have magnetic parts to keep on tank... but, if rain? Or if i have have wax on the tank ?

Is safe ride with tank bag? And can I put a netbook inside?

I have used one in the past and you shouldn't have any problems with it sliding at all, they use very strong magnets. The only problem that i had was even putting cloth under the bag i still had small scratches anywhere the magnets touched so i ended up taking it off after a month or so.

I dont have experience with that bag, but I do have a ton of experience with the Rapid Transit Recon 19. Ive used this bag in the rain many times and had no problems with it wanting to come off. Ive even taken it off and put it back onto the wet tank (didnt have any other option) and I had no problems with the bag moving at highway speed. I have also used it with a freshly waxed tank and there was no effect on the bag. The only time I have ran into a problem with mine was when I tried to stuff it with a bunch of T shirts and stuff for a short weekend trip, the magnets did not want to hold it on and I had to use the included straps to keep it on the tank. I keep them rolled up under the tank incase I need them. I have had my netbook inside it before, but the fit was a little awkward because I keep it in a bigger hard case.

Again, I cant speak for the bag your looking at but if its anything like the one I have you will have no problems with it. You would be suprised how strong the magnets really are.
 
I have run about 50k miles with a magnetic tank bag on two different bikes, everything from washboarded gravel roads to double the speed limit on wide open stretches in the western US and Canada, never even a wiggle from the bag.

It will catch grit and scratch your tank, so keep that in mind, if you care about that sort of thing.

+1 I have 2 magnetic bags from different mfg's. and no problems even crossing Nevada with monster cross winds.
Speed tested my newest Tourmaster bag on my FZ1 and I can attest it will stick at 161 mph.
The Wolfman bag on my FJR has over 80,000 miles and the fuel tank looks fine except where I picked up a lock washer from my work bench and that scratched the tank a little, check the underside of the bag before putting on the bike.

I think my tank will be scratch, but if I put a protection between tank and the bag ? A kind of stamp ?

I have fear if I put a cloth and the bag on the rain sliding. Idk :S

But stamp I thik can help me. I look this magnetics, and is very very strong!

someon use itens from mototrek? Is a good brand ? I will import to Brazil.

You shouldn't need to put anything between the bag and tank. These bags are designed to not scratch your tank. Just keep it clean and you won't have any problems. And there is no way rain and high speed will move the bag. I've been using magnetic tank bags for 20 years and never had a problem.
 
Hmmm i think if dont have a "noise of sand" between the bag and the tank then can I believe dont will enter sand between this parts?

If I wash and clean, every time before travel, and put the bag, then can I protect from scratch?

I did believe on the way with 80 mph sands can be enter between parts, but now i dont believe more. I have wind shield too. I'm right?

They should not scratch but they do. I have the Joe Rocket Manta tank bag. Go to WalMart or a party store and buy any window decoration that sticks to windows. It is a static cling vinyl.

Clean your tank well. Cut some circles out a little bigger than your magnets. Put a DOUBLE layer under each magnet. The vinyl sticks well. I just got a "skeleton" window decoration, which was faint black on clear vinyl. Can't even see the color once it adheres to your bike. Should protect reasonably well.

Nice Tip Pseudo! I forget about static vinil. I use on my last cell phone, is this ?

This not a glue, is static too. Then can I remove, clean the area, and aplly again. Very nice tip! :Flash:
 
My Nelson Rigg bag has some really strong magnets, and it's impossible to remove from the tank without scratching the clear coat. My tank is full of fine scratches where it attaches, but you can only see them up close in direct lighting.

+1 on grit. Dont keep on pavement/sidewalk ,when filling gas. I learnt it hard way. I got Joe rocket hammer head. its perfectly safe for high speeds.
 
I've got a joe rocket manta (the smaller one). I have never had a problem with it. Doesn't budge at all no matter what. It also has never scratched my tank, but it sometime leaves small smudge marks from the rubberish coating on the part that touches the tank. The smudges are easily wiped off with a cloth. It's the perfect size for everyday use. As mentioned above, I could see it scratching the tank if there was dirt or debris where the magnets meet the tank. That is easily prevented though..just wipe it with your hands before attaching it to the tank to get the dirt off..
 
Been using them for years & never had a problem , the one I had on the FZ6 had 6 magnets & never moved even at top speed :thumbup: the one I have now has 4 magnets & only starts to ever so slightly lift at redonkulous & very very naughty speeds :eek: ;)
