Hello!

I have reason to believe the rear of my fz6 has been lowered.
Can anyone tell me how that is done and how to undo it?

My rear fender scrapes the rear of the bike when 2up even with
preload all the way up.. and the bike does look a bit lower then
other FZ6s around me, but I might be imagining things.

Anyone?

That sounds like it's been lowered quite a bit. What is your passengers weight? What is the total combined weight (both rider + passenger)? Is the fender constantly dragging or only when you go over bumps / uneven road?

Check out this thread on the Metisse lowering kit. Examine your rear shock (as best you can) to see if it still appears stock or if there is any way you can tell it is modified. The Metisse Lowering kit consists of a link that shortens the end of your shock. The link looks very different than stock, but it may be hard to see without disassembling the rear of the bike.

A common way to lower is to replace the lower eyelet with a shorter one. If the spring is nearly touching the swing arm yours may have been changed. You running a tail tidy? Perhaps it needs some tweaking??
Look in my album for stock shock pictures.

The guy in the shop says he sees some parts that don't belong to the bike
so he'll take them off and see what should be there and fabricate anything if
needed.

I'm 200lbs, my co-riders range from 120 to 220lbs, and it doesn't really
matter which one is on the back, the bumps make a plasticky crackling
sound, and I can see the damage on the fender.

I don't have a tail tidy.

Where is the seat height measured from?
That's probably the easiest way to figure out how low it is,
the seat should be at 810mm, right?

Actually just looking is easiest;
Is the spring still black? If not, it may have been changed.
Does the distance from the eyelet to the spring look to be the same as this? bottom shock, left side as seen from spring retainer to eyelet.

The shock seems to be stock, but there's some stuff added at the mounting point. I think my mechanic has it figured out. It doesn't need to be stock height, but it's at least 1" too low now.

We just lowered mine with the Soupy's lowering link. It lowered it 1 1/4 inch. I weigh 220 and my husband was bouncing the back pretty hard trying to see if it would bottom out and it wouldn't. It was even on the stock setting (3). (The factory seat height is 31.3 in).
