Lower idle with new spark plugs

Hey guys,

I changed spark plugs in my bike yesterday from OEM ones (I think they were original, my bike has about 11k miles and they looked burned, though the spacing looked correct) to NGK Iridiums. After the change and once the bike got warm the idle dropped to about 1k RPM, where it used to be at about 1.3k RPM before (as per specs AFAIK).

Is this normal or expected and simple idle adjustment is enough or did I connect back something wrong?

I got all the plugs torqued correctly (#2 and #3 are bi#%^ to torque, no space at all) and cables are in correct order.

Just adjust the idle to normal range. The bike would be running very poorly (if at all) if two of the HT leads were connected wrong.

Yeah, I'm going to adjust the idle.

Are the spark plugs properly torked down and are the lead caps likewise snuggly snapped down over the plugs?

Yes, they are. I adjusted the idle today and it's running fine again. Thanks.

did you adjust the idle by twisting the thing on the right side of the engine above where you fill the oil?

The idle screw in on the left side inbetween the fuel tank and the frame. Using a long phillips head screw driver will reach it. The outside of it appears to be star shaped.

Turning it clockwise, raises the idle.

When I put in the NGK iridiums in my 07, the idle dropped just slightly. All plugs were torqued to spec. Other than that, they perform great!!

Any of these also get an AIR filter change and not mention it? Granted it'd have to be pretty bad to hurt the idle but at different elevations it could be more noticeable.

Can I exclude Florida from the map? See level would likely have the least impact!

No other changes at the time of the plug change (original air filter). As for elevation, I am about 8.5' above sea level. Much higher than that, its a b.... getting the boat in the water..

I just went out for a half hour spin and it went back to normal range
