Maybe I didn't notice this til now, but my tail light has a lot of play in it. I checked the bolts but they were tight. Is this normal?

Yes it is. You will have some play. If you don't believe me, just do a search on the other threads relating to the loose tailight.

Also: If you have to replace the OEM lamp try to use an OEM lamp from Yamaha. They are different from your standard automotive 1157 lamp in that the OEM lamp has an extra physical bridge on the filament to strengthen in against vibration. The standard automotive 1157 will fail prematurely.

I noticed this on my bike the other day. was thinking this is a bit dodgy took seat off checked screws all seems well done a search on here and came up with the yes its supposed to be like that. what sort of play we talking about here mine wobbles a fair bit
Yeah, thats what Im talking about. It wobbles a little. Im still learning all the qwerks about the bike.

I was told this is because of the location of the exhausts. The vibrations from them mean the tail light is floating on little foam inserts.

Mine has play in it too, it annoyed me initally but i got over it.
Does anyone else find the seat rattles a bit when you go over bumps - with mine the latch part 'clunks' when im sitting on the seat and the road's a bit bumpy.
Anyone else get this? Any easy fixes?

May have been posted before, but good to know! I had the same concern and I bought mine used so I wasn't really sure...
Then again I had other concerns seeing as there were random missing bolts and some replaced with zipties... ???

Even the aftermarket tail lights have some play in them. No biggie! I really like the LED ones. They are so much brighter! A lot of people have added a bunch of extra lights to be seen. :thumbup:

it was the first thing i asked the guy at my first oil change at the Yamaha service

I just remembered that I had noticed that the connector for the kick stand kill switch was unplugged, then I noticed the tail light....I had just come back from the dealer and was washing the bike. I thought, oh great!
