This is the only pic I can find of my old FZ750 bought new in 1987. Beautiful bike, and in stock form had it off the clock at 250km/hr (indicated). On the track handled beautifully, but due to the 16 inch front wheel was prone to the odd tankslapper on the road.

Should get a photo of my son (now 25) sitting on the FZ6 lol

Thats weird, photo showed up in the "preview post"... ???

Maybe try this?

i dont understand the fascination with fully faired race bikes! Naked's have so much more attitude and style. Even the fz6 with a belly pan looks more bad ass. Hopefully someday the consumer will speak here. I get a lot of questions with my bike, the non biker is like wtf is that a ducati? In my dreams.

Whats with the exhaust, they changed one of the best things about the FZ6.

A lot of company's have gone back to the lower exhaust because riders were complaining that the undertail raised the "centre of gravity" making an unstable ride at speed. The lower the exhaust, the better centre of gravity.

That being said, the undertail is one of the things that drew me to buying the FZ6???

People? It's not an FZ6. It's not a FZ6 replacement, that was the FZ6R. It 's a new class of bike and is a replica right off the same production line as the FZ1. Undertail exhaust wasn't on the FZ1 and will not be on this bike because they are one in the same. This is the FZ1 motor (strongest rumors have implied several times) that has been sleeved to reduce the bike to 800cc's. This isn't an upscaled FZ6 replacement, it is a downscaled FZ1 replica. ;)

The undertail exhaust was "done away with" when the FZ6R came out.

I think this is spot on! In all the press everyone is saying it's a replacement for the FZ6 but no - the FZ6R is (however much of a downgrade this is!). Look at this from Yamaha's business perspective. They want a 'beginners' 600cc, a sport 600cc (R6) and the litre bikes in the FZ1 and R1. But they don't have anything competing with the Kawa Z750. I think the FZ8 fits great in here! It gives them a good range across the board.

If you have come from a beginners 600 (ie the FZ6R/XJ6 whatever you want to call it!) you would either consider the FZ1 or the FZ8. If you are more experienced but don't want the bulk and weight of the litre bikes you'd consider the FZ8 as well. If you want the litre you have that too!

Kawa's Z750 is a huge seller in Europe, time for some market share! The only thing I think the FZ8 does is make the FZ6R/XJ6 look so incredibly unappealing! Also, something more original than a scaled down FZ1 would have been nice, but times are hard and they have to fill the gap as cheaply as possible I guess.

I'd look to upgrade to a Z750, an FZ8 as I don't want the litre bike - it doesn't fit what I ride for (commuting in city traffic and canyon carving on tight small roads).

I think it's rediculous that they won't bring a naked bike to the states. There has been some nice recent success in the US with naked bikes. Between Buells, Triumphs, Suzuki, etc... there are plenty of other naked bikes out there that are being bought up. I understand it may not be the bulk of the bikes they'll sell, but it's obvious there is a demand for it here. I think it's foolish of them to not bring it here, but I suppose that is just my opinion.

I guess the cruiser loser market wins yet again in the US. Americans are so dumb...

Maybe it's a cost thing too? It's got to cost less to simply use a traditional 4 into 1 off the side, instead of routing it under the seat/tail area.

The FZ8 IS a replacement for the FZ6 but not by itself, the FZ6R/XJ6 + FZ8 do the that. THE FZ6 has always been good at most things but never excellent. So Yamaha has given what people are looking for, a starter cheap bike; XJ6/FZ6R (like the Suzuki Bandit and the Kawasaki ER6 as its called in the UK, and the Honda CBF600) and a more performance oriented canyon carver; FZ8 (like the Z750, Street Triple)

I think it is a very clever move by Yamaha.

I am in love with the thought of the bigger motor but not to large as in my province I pay insurance on cc's (which is the stupidest idea ever thought of). An FZ1 for myself being only 21 is close to $3500 a year!!

Get OUT! Get out of town, now!
