I hate my car!!!!!

Why are American cars so cheaply made? I have a 06 Grand Prix with a little over 50,000 miles that is truly a POS! I've replace the brake rotors(twice at my expense), wiper motor, Rack and pinion(at my expense), battery(my expense), brakes(twice at my expense), and numerous minor problems have had it sidelined. All this in less than 50,000 miles.

I have lived with most of this and not bitched, but no more. Before I left for vacation a couple weeks I had a minor run in with a curb. When I say minor I mean under 5 mph. It snowed and I stupidly took the car instead of the 4x4 truck. Well anyway I took it to the dealer today for what I though would be a simple alignment. Here is the grand total for a run in with a curb.

Bent sub frame $1,927
Bent A-arm $272
Rack and pinion $792
Rim $457
Wheel bearing $94

For a grand total of just under $3,600! Are you freaking kidding me? Maybe I'm bitching for nothing, but why the F is everything made so damn breakable. Yes it's my fault that I ran into a curb, but I just think this is crazy. Needless to say I turned it over to insurance and will let them handle it. Once fixed it will be traded off for something that is made with a little quality.

On a side note my American made truck is a freaking tank!(08 chevy 1500). I can beat on it and it begs for more. Maybe another is in order.
 
Sorry to hear that.
I have a 1999 Infiniti with over 100k miles which runs like in its 1st day, never fixed anything on it except brakes and a fuse.

I couldn't agree more. Pontiac (aside from the new G8) build quality is crap. My sister in law has a Grand Am that is falling apart badly at 100k miles.

Our 2003 VW Jetta GLI runs great. Have only replaced tires, stereo and a couple of bulbs (installed HID's). (knock on wood)
 
My rental is a 08 Jetta and I'm freaking loving it. It has a cool transmission, manual or automatic. I'm racing this thing around like im a teenager. :D

I turned my wheels and the car went straight, I was doing about 5 MPH. I'm guessing that since the entire weight of the car was put on the one rim and stopped instantly that is what caused to damage. It's just everything that happens to this car is bad.

The kicker is the car looks 100% toher than the chip in the rim. The wheels are slightly mis aligned, but that is it.

Since your vehicle is a 2006, I'm thinking you have full coverage insurance. This damage is directly related to a collision with a curb which should be covered under your car insurance policy. I'd be calling your insurance agent and explain what happened. You might need to make a file an accident report with the police agency where the crash occurred. Explain that your car was driveable, and you didn't discover the damage until you took it to the dealer to get checked out.

Thanks for the reply, but that has already been done. Insurance has taken control and provided a rental have authorized the work. The bitch is my my rates will probably go up over this.

I haven't researched it yet. I wasn't planning on getting rid of it, but every time I look at it it just discussed me. I'll start looking at 08 models over the next week and see what interest me. I really love the 2010 Camaro, but I'm sure I'll be in the same boat with that!


Whatever I buy it will be used. I'd rather take last years model and save a few thousand than pay for another new vehicle.

i did the same thing to my 2002 grand am and it cost just about as much. i was doing like 40kph tho. the wheel was completely buckled in.

other than that tho ive never had to do anything to it but basic maintenance.
 
I used to own American cars and trucks for 15 years. It was my cousin who told me to go with a toyota truck after the 2nd transmission went in my Ford truck after 40k miles. I will never buy american again. I have an Acura with 265k miles and can't even hear the engine run. Had 2 Toyota trucks, best truck I ever owned, and will never buy another American truck. I tried to support the American auto industry but they wore out their welcome.
 
Even though the commercials for buying an American made car seems tempting due in part to it's low or zero (limited time) APR, or other incentives such as big rebates, my missus and I won't buy one because of it's lack in quality. I love my Hondas, sure it's more expensive to a comparable American made car but it'll last almost forever with little maintainance. My 2002 Oddyssey which I've driven everywhere US and Canada hasn't failed me or the passengers it takes.
But who can really say that all these cars are 100% made in America or Japan or where ever they came from. My understanding is that even these so called US made cars contain parts from all over the world and my beloved Honda is made in Indiana by Indians.......:BLAA:
