How to rear tire??

do we have a how to on how to go from rear tire on to rear tire off, back to rear tire on... i dunno if i am too keen on removing the rear tire myself, but figured i would ask if we had a how to somewhere and the level of dificulty involved... thanks :thumbup:

when this tire wears out i am going to build a home made tire changer. I will post a how to when i do it. But you will have to wait until mid summer i am guessing.

All that is required is you remove the caliper from your rear brake, then loosen the locking nut holding the rear wheel axle nut in place. Then simply remove the rear wheel axle and the wheel is off. Have your tire changed out and balanced at a shop for a small fee or DIY if you have the equipment, then simply reverse steps for re-assembly. Looks like 15 mins tops. If you need pics pm me and I'll try to post some up.

reio - i dont need a new tire now.. probably like you, toward the mid/end of the summer.. i just wanted to know if this was something i wanted to tackle myself at that time.. but yea, let me know how the tire changer goes... :thumbup:

One of my buddies made a bead breaker out of 2x4's and it works really well, he usually mounts my tires for a 12 pack of beer, but i want to be self sufficient, so i will be getting some axle grease, tire spoons, 2x4's for the bead breaker contraption, some ire soap stuff to help set the bead, and then have at it over the summer.

I should be doing this next week, after my tire gets here(Pilot road2). I'll let you know if I run into any difficulties. A friend of mine just did this on his kids R-6, he said it was pretty easy. Obviously it is a little different, but not much.

Before mounting your tire place it in the summer sun or bring it inside in cooler weather. The warmer a tire is, the easier it is to spoon on the rim. Cold tires don't stretch much.

if you've ever tightened your chain, you've done 90% of the work before. The only thing "yamaha rider 87" missed was to make sure your wheels aligned. The easiest way is to measure from the swing arm pivot to the axle on both sides.

The service manual you can download off of the site also explains it and shows a visual of how everything goes back together. It also says everything that gets lubrication and what kind. The manual also has the torques for everything!

if you've ever tightened your chain, you've done 90% of the work before. The only thing "yamaha rider 87" missed was to make sure your wheels aligned. The easiest way is to measure from the swing arm pivot to the axle on both sides.

Good advise, don't forget the alignment unless you like replacing you tires all the time!
